I was going to post this very question myself, actually. I heard they fold up at night for easy cleaning, pretty sure I heard that on the "Walt Disney World Explorer" CD-ROM they used to sell at the resorts.

I'm not 100% but I've heard the "palms" move and are solar operated

Sadly that would not surprise me ~ It sounds like it would be an intricate mechanism and one that wouldn't be noticed by most if it wasn't maintained
