As a kid, those palm trees were one of my favorite details at WDW. I still love them.

Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

Re: Disney in the Day - Photo Tribute to Disney Daytime Magi
I was going to post this very question myself, actually. I heard they fold up at night for easy cleaning, pretty sure I heard that on the "Walt Disney World Explorer" CD-ROM they used to sell at the resorts.Amy wrote:I thought I remember that they are supposed to fold up at night? Anyone else heard this or know if it is true?

I'm not 100% but I've heard the "palms" move and are solar operated

I wonder if any of my nighttime photos at Tomorrowland captured the palms? Weekend project to do some digging perhaps?!

They used to fold up at night, but I've read that they don't anymore.

You're welcome! I heard that they're broken, but I don't know how reliable that info is.

Sadly that would not surprise me ~ It sounds like it would be an intricate mechanism and one that wouldn't be noticed by most if it wasn't maintainedPolynesian Princess wrote:You're welcome! I heard that they're broken, but I don't know how reliable that info is.

We love those palm trees in Tomorrow Land - wish we could have them at our home, but doubt the HOA would approve!

Most of the people I've seen avoid it because they notice the wet spot on the ground.
