I agree. My memories of the Poly smells are the gardenias, not cigarette smoke. I hope you give it another chance, guys.

Re: Favorite Resort Lobby
Well, the Master Planner has already booked us a breakfast at the Kona Cafe, a Subsonicers meet-up dinner at 'Ohana, and the Dole Whip meet-up on the Poly beach, so I think we're going to have plenty of time to thoroughly check it out.

I love the animal kingdom lodge the best. I like it because of the amazing smells and the bridge on the fifth floor is really cool. The view out the huge window onto Savannah never gets old for me.

I agree with you! I have not been to all of the resorts but this one took my breath away.northernmousefan2007 wrote:I love the animal kingdom lodge the best. Re: Favorite Resort Lobby
People say to me animal kingdom isn't there favorite park and they could never stay in a resort themed like it. I think it's theming is completely different and a great step away from "normal" hotel themes. I love riverside too, but its not the lobby that I love there. I like the "feel" of alligator bayou, personal yet people all around.

Re: Favorite Resort Lobby
Yea the AKL is the best lobby! There is so much to see and do. When we stay there I love walking around late at night. There is so much more you can see when it's empty.

I like the early mornings, hardly anybody around. The animals are usually eating the food closest to the guest viewing areas in the early morning too, they don't usually get very close for the rest of the day.

I agree as I love the AKL. I also like staying at Riverside, but their lobby is so plain. Can anyone explain the lyre fanning the lobby from the ceiling?northernmousefan2007 wrote:People say to me animal kingdom isn't there favorite park and they could never stay in a resort themed like it. Riverside lobby unlike akl is really just a place to check in and out. Akl lobby is a place you want to make time in your day to walk around in.

Re: Favorite Resort Lobby
I've noticed with all moderate resorts, the lobby is just a place to check in/out (can't speak for the values b/c I've never been). But with the deluxe resorts, you want to hang out in the lobby and stay awhile! They're all amazing in their own right. I think Disney needs to create a more "WOW" atmosphere with all lobbies, not just their deluxe resorts.
Re: Favorite Resort Lobby
The moderates are pretty but functional, but the values are just basic and functional maybe it reflects in the price you pay the greater the price the better the atmosphere.boilerbabe wrote:I've noticed with all moderate resorts, the lobby is just a place to check in/out (can't speak for the values b/c I've never been). I like the moderate hotels. Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting them up there with the AKL and others. I do like the cafeterias and that they give you a place to get a tall cool one. It's a place your family can relax and wind down without all high muckedty muck of the high end resorts. Sometimes I have more fun slumming and socializing with the people that are at Disney for a true family memory. I like sitting at the pool at the All Star Sport and telling some dad how to get the most for his families money.Sleepy90 wrote:The moderates are pretty but functional, but the values are just basic and functional maybe it reflects in the price you pay the greater the price the better the atmosphere.boilerbabe wrote:I've noticed with all moderate resorts, the lobby is just a place to check in/out (can't speak for the values b/c I've never been). This is just MHO and is not shared by my family. They'd rather go and stay at the Swan!

Re: Favorite Resort Lobby
While it's not really a Resort, I'd have to say it's the Grand Californian at Disneyland. Not only is it amazing, but the memories I've had there when meeting up with bhead and his brother to get wasted at the bar every few months can't be beat.

It's hard to pick between Poly and WL, those two are at the top of my list. But I also like the solarium at Beach Club. I'm a local so I often take my laptop, buy a sandwich and a drink at the retail/cafeteria and get comfy for a few hours and do some work. Great atmosphere.
