OK, was randomly browsing earlier and came across this photo album from a place in Japan called "Nara Dreamland", which looks half like a clone of Disneyland, and half like a run-down place.. looks very creepily messed up!

I'd quite like to know how the moo they got away with copying some parts of Disneyland so closely though

I must've missed the explatives when I first read through. everyone be warned that if we catch it, it will be amended/deleted.
And that is one screwed up park. almost everything looks the same, but it's completely mutated.

I bet this was the first try at creating a park in Japan. To me the detail is way to close I would have to say Walt is in the creation of this park. Either he was paid some money to start this park (which is what help fund the disney CO today) we will never know but Like I said just way to much is exactly the same. and remeber we are only talking about 6 years after Disneyland opened.

That thought did cross my mind, but at the same time, it's not the same. Some of the stuff there looks to cheap to be Disney, for example the castle doesn't look as nice, and main street is just wrong.
Personally, I think it's an imitation, although I am suprised that the Disney lawyers weren't let loose on it...

Yeh, erm.. whoops

Yeah, I think it's like a "What Disneyland would be like had it not been successful", which is quite a scary thought. Let's hope that Disneyland never ends up like that.

your Right I am suprised disney hasn't done anything about it. Maybe because it is so run down it isn't compatition. also did you notice they were selling Winnie the Pooh in one of the shops! I still think something is wierd about it. It looks a lot like old disney maybe Walts first drawings. Who knows?

This article may go a long way to explain Nara Dreamland:
http://www.laughingplace.com/News-PID110060-110061.asp
Here is a brief quote:
But there was another reason why Kawasaki received such a cold reception. 1961 was the year Nara Dreamland opened. Located near an area of historic temples in western Japan, Nara Dreamland was built to be an exact copy of Disneyland. Although lacking in much of Disneyland's detail and quality, Nara Dreamland shares the same basic layout as Disneyland and has - trains which circle the park, a castle very similar to Sleeping Beauty Castle, a cruise through the jungle, a monorail system, a rollercoaster inside a mountain...

A very very odd park. It almost seemed like something in a horror film. Some people find an old theme park in Japan out in the middle of nowhere. Little do they know they will be riding into a world of DEATH!!

Oh man. I just watched the video on the site. The guy is lifting the safety bar while the roller coaster is still moving into the station! What a creepy place.

I think the scariest part of that, was at the end, it said that the ride operators for that coaster TOLD them to raise the safety bars WHILE it was moving
I'd love to go there (or anywhere else around the world) like they - Theme Park Review - do for a living. It's kinda tough to guage how REALLY bad some of these things are on video/through pictures. I'd much prefer BEING there...
