This was unexpected he was not an old man.

The art world may not miss him but I'm sure there are a lot of Disney Fans that will. I think my favourite picture is the one of Peter and Wendy flying over London Bridge and Big Ben.
My thoughts are with his family at this time.

I saw this on the AOL newsline yesterday. Very sad indeed...

Since it was revealed that much of his work was done by other artists, with him adding a few strokes and signature, I wonder if he really did paint it?

Also, there are many hillarious stories of his drunken behavior, such as urinating on a Pooh statue at DLR.

Nope, 60 minuites (if I recall) nailed him on the "finishing touches" aspect of his paintings and there are numerous articles on his fondness for marking territory.

Yeah...I thought it was that he painted the originals...then high quality prints are made...then other artists go in and make enhancements to those paintings which make them look more realistic in terms of the lighting effects. Personally...I don't see anything wrong with that. But...I am not a fan of the extreme prices on his prints. Artists like that make an insane amount of money off of photocopies of their original works.

He was supposedly like a head chef, where the others would do the bulk of the labor and he would literally do one or two strokes as a garnish and sign it. The reason it's bad (if his work was considered investment art, which it's not) is that all the work becomes suspect as to his real contribution.

I do say his New England series was impressive...

I'd have to say the "Sunset at Chappaquiddick" is one of my favorites. ;)

To coin a phrase "Holy crap on a stick".

I had no idea about all this.
If he painted them and someone else finished them thats ok, If someone else painted them and he finished them thats still ok.
The bottom line is it is his signature on the bottom of the painting and that does not make the painting any better or worse if you like it.

I have a Disney Kinkade calendar hanging in my house and I like it.

It's generally not acceptable, at least with art and creative work, to do that since it hurts the actual artist (not being able to take credit for it) and also make his claims dubious. Though, calling his work art is a bit of a stretch since the goal was to make money rather than express anything, it's been noted that his Pro- USA and Jesus themes are not his true feelings but another admitted means to extract money from demographics.
