Racist Disney Candy?
Probably a coincidence, but it looks really bad that the first AA disney princess is used to promote watermelon candy.

Well, it's not as bad as seeing a princess playset that not only has interchangeable outfits, but interchangeable heads as well! (I have a picture, but I can't seem to find it right now...)

Interchangeable heads for dolls?! That's funny!!MmeLeota wrote:Well, it's not as bad as seeing a princess playset that not only has interchangeable outfits, but interchangeable heads as well! (I have a picture, but I can't seem to find it right now...)
I guess I didn't have a wide enough exposure to racism growing up as I wouldn't have looked at that and thought anything about it. I suppose that is a good thing and says something about how my parents raised me. Or that I am simply quite naive ~ probably a little bit of both

Re: Racist Disney Candy?
Isn't it better than if they had vanilla for Sleeping Beauty and chocolate for Tiana?
Like you Amy, I wouldn't have thought anything about it either. Aren't watermelons grown in the south? Tiana is from New Orleans...am I missing something? I must be naive too.
They are just small dolls and each princess has various accessories (complete with an extra head)...I will have to find that picture of the playsets...I just had to take a pic when we saw those!

Not really, better, just different. The problem stems mostly from how the watermelon has been used as part of the sterotype.
The funny part, someone was commenting on the candy itself, is that the watermelon one tastes better than the rest of the candies.

Yeah, I guess I see that now that it was pointed out, but it's not something I ever would have noticed on my own

Meanwhile I laugh at Aurora being on "plain" vanilla.

Think of it as being saved from a faux pas next time you put on black face and offer fried chicken and watermelon to your guests.MmeLeota wrote:mousekedittos...DemonOfMusic wrote:Yeah, I guess I see that now that it was pointed out, but it's not something I ever would have noticed on my own

No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

As they say about Florida, the further North you drive the more Southern it gets.
