That may be due to the fact you get better prices somewhere else (I've been able to find better price even at Amazon.com compared prices on DVDs and CDs at Best Buy); therefore, they may be scaling back to the "bestsellers" only...

Music is probably more about digital distro since you can buy a single song rather than the whole album if you want now. Best Buy owns Napster, so even they see the writing on the wall for physical media. Soon it will be like records, a product made in small numbers for a niche market.

Agreed. The digital media has really taken off in the past 5 years. Just like phones.

I'm wondering how long until the CD player is gone from cars? Might be a while since it was only last year or 2009 where it stopped being standard for a cassette deck to be in the car.

They have been, but it's not standard for all cars yet and (just looked it up) the final holdout was Lexus with their 2010 line. The CD/DVD is also being phased out but they may be working out an elegant way right now to replace the drive since various cars use it as a data point for various systems.

Blue Ray? What is this Blue Ray you speak of? All I have is Blu Ray :D

That's not quite true though, the Blu Ray racks at the stores have been growing more and more (think DVD when they entered the market), and now the DVD is just an extra bonus.

I'm waiting for disk-less media.

That's about 3ish years out, the only hold up is the telecoms (media companies love discless) since this country sucks for broadband coverage and the providers want to give us caps like in canada using a logic that was disproved later. They also want to charge you and the companies extra (double-dipping) for using their service.

Like them but worse since they want to charge the consumer directly rather than have the company decide to eat it or share the cost with you.

Ummm, really? What am I going to play my CDs in when I am in the car then? And my cassettes? :( I can live without the cassette really I suppose, but I will be sad if I can't have a CD player...

I know my car has a standard RCA jack for everything but I also got an apple connection put in my car so I could control it from the nav screen.
