Yeah, I've gotten about 4 or 5 notices from different companies now. Epsilon must handle a lot of companies!!

I received this email from one of my credit card companies. Yikes.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

I haven't seen anything since yesterday. I wonder if they sent them out an explanation and they just copy and pasted the bulk of it into their own "we screwed up and aren't sorry" emails?

...or maybe since it's been picked up by the national media they feel like the public is now informed and there is no need to continue to send out any more e-mail notifications? So that they can cover themselves in the event that someone tries to nail them over violations of California privacy laws?

Maybe, but I got another email notification today. I wonder if Wizzard just isn't doing as much business with companies that use(d) Epsilon?mindflipper wrote:...or maybe since it's been picked up by the national media they feel like the public is now informed and there is no need to continue to send out any more e-mail notifications? I might not be, I got another one this afternoon from Mariott. I think a lot of it might be tied to reward/customer loyalty programs.

My email was hacked on 4/6...and I wonder if this is how it happened???
It was a very rough situation and took me hours to get things fixed.

Probably not, they only wanted the contact info so they could sell it to companies that spam you.

Yea they're in it for big money by re-selling the info. I doubt they're screwing around with people's e-mail accounts. If it got hacked and it is related it's most likely someone that got you to click/send something by gaining confidence with you through a legit looking e-mail (which is basically what the cnn.com article posted earlier discusses).Wizzard419 wrote:Probably not, they only wanted the contact info so they could sell it to companies that spam you.

Could be worse, you could be in Texas.
Well aside from the usual reasons, someone in the government (forgot the dept.) put 3.5 million state residents personal info (SS#, birth certificate, etc.) online in a public folder that anyone could get to. They left it up for a year. I didn't think it was possible to beat NJ's data gaff earlier this year but apparently I was wrong.
