Standoff ends in Disney town of Celebration, gunman dead
Records show Craig Foushee was dealing with a divorce and foreclosure.

2:17 p.m. EST, December 3, 2010

A nearly 14-hour standoff in Celebration ended when deputies found the gunman dead inside his home early Friday morning — the latest death in the Disney-developed community.
Craig Stanley Foushee, a 52-year-old former American Airlines pilot, shot himself sometime before 2:20 a.m., Twis Lizasuain of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office said.
The violence comes days after deputies confirmed they are investigating Celebration's first homicide.
Sometime over the Thanksgiving weekend somebody killed former teacher Matteo Patrick Giovanditto 58, in his condo on Water Street.
The homicide, which is unrelated to the most recent standoff, remains unsolved.
Sheriff's deputies records show the incident with Foushee began Wednesday when they were notified by his wife, who is in the process of divorcing him, that he was armed and had threatened to kill himself.
Lizasuain said they arrived at the Yew Court home in the afternoon and locked down Celebration High School and Celebration School K8 because they were told Foushee was armed.
Deputies waited at the residence for nearly two hours before learning Foushee had already left the area without harming himself. Officials released the schools from the lock down and left Celebration.
They returned Thursday after learning Foushee had barricaded himself at the house and was armed with at least one firearm.
Lizasuain said that during the standoff, deputies approached his front door and Foushee fired several shots at them, but none was injured.
"Deputies didn't fire back because they didn't have an active target. They couldn't see him through the door," she said.
Later that evening, deputies tossed tear gas into Foushee's home after trying to convince him to drop his weapon. Records show they lost contact with Foushee after gassing the house.
Officials sent a robot inside the house to locate Foushee before deploying the SWAT unit into the residence. SWAT members found Foushee's body.
Lizasuain said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
In a Facebook profile, a man with Foushee's name and same hometown, is shown has having three daughters he described as "my treasures," according to an Associated Press report.
The Facebook page also shows that in April, he posted that he "went from being married to single."
Photos also depict him at a firing range where people are shooting guns and doing what he described as "convoy/motorcase IED-scenario training."
Osceola County court records show a judge granted Kimberly Foushee a domestic-violence injunction for protection against Craig Foushee in June. It was dismissed in August.
The couple also had filed for divorce in September 2009 and foreclosure on their home in October 2009. Both cases remain open.
They also filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in April.
Records show Foushee had launched a security company Reliant Protection Group in 2006, but it was dissolved in September.
His professional networking account on LinkedIn shows Foushee worked as a pilot for American Airlines for nearly two decades and served in the U.S. Air Force. He also lists membership in the Florida SWAT Association on the website.
The Celebration community near Interstate 4 and U.S. Highway 192 was developed by the Walt Disney Co., which has since divested most of its control of the town. About 11,000 people live there

Wow two crazy bizarre incidents in Celebration within a week. I thought that was one of the quietest places to live.

Now it has the highest per capita violent crimes rate in the U.S. Because of the small population.
