Dog Names

Post by theBIGyowski » Oct Thu 07, 2010 3:52 pm

DW and I are getting a weimaraner puppy in a few weeks and we were trying to come up with some names. It is a girl and she is silver.

We were trying to come up with a Disney name for her, but we don't want "Minnie" and my parents already have a dog named "Daisy".

Any thoughts?

I found this list on a pet website. Not all are dogs but all are female names:

Bambi - The long, lean, sporty dog who has a stump for a tail.
Beauty - This dog appeals to all beasts.
Belle - Beauty's real name in Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
Bo Peep - The little shepherd girl in Disney's Toy Story. A fantastic name for any shepherd breed of dog.
Briar Rose - Sleeping Beauty's name while she hid out in the woods.
Bianca - The beautiful female mouse in Disney's The Rescuers.
Cinderella - "Someday, my prince will come... to take me away from all this domesticated drudgery."
Cleo - The beautiful goldfish in Disney's Pinocchio.
Cruela - The evil character in Disney's 101 Dalmatians.
Daisy - The object of Donald Duck's affection.
Fantasia - "I'm the fulfillment of all your pet fantasies."
Fauna - One of the good fairies in Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
Flit - The hummingbird character in Disney's Pocahontas.
Flora - One of the good fairies in Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
Flower - The skunk character in Disney's Bambi.
Jasmine - The beautiful princess in Disney's Aladdin.
Joanna - The snake character in Disney's The Rescuers.
Kiara - A lioness in Disney's The Lion King.
Lady - "Disney made a movie in my honor."
Maleficent - The evil witch in Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
Maid Marian - The lady fox in Disney's Robin Hood.
Medusa - The mean lady character in Disney's The Rescuers.
Merryweather - One of the good fairies in Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
Minnie - The object of Mickey Mouse's affection.
Nakoma - An indian girl in Disney's Pocahontas.
Penny - The little girl character in Disney's The Rescuers.
PepperAnn - The title character of a popular Disney television show.
Perdita - The Mommy Dalmatian in Disney's 101 Dalmatians.
Perla - The lady mouse in Disney's Cinderella.
Piglet - The perfect name for a dog that resembles a baby pig.
Pocahontas - The famous indian princess and title character of a Disney movie.
Queen - Snow White's evil stepmother.
Snow White - This pet name would fit a dark-haired beauty very well.
Tiger Lily - The indian chief's daughter in Disney's Peter Pan.
Tinkerbell - This girl dog name would fit a very small breed of dog perfectly.
Wendy - The female lead in Disney's Peter Pan.

I happen to like Bianca the best!
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

I like Belle. My friend has a phantom standard poodle she named Cynder, short for Cinderella.

That is quite a comprehensive list Horizons has there.

What about Porto you did stay at Port Orleans for your honeymoon didn't you, it is more of a male name though.

That's a great find there, horizons.

The list is lacking Meeko. C'mon, wouldn't you want a unique sort of name for your pet named after Pochahontas's raccoon?

I like Cleo. One of my all time favorite pet cats was named Cleo, and one of the Kitties I have now is named a variation of that in her memory.

Of course, you might not want my opinion. I tend to give animals weird names for fun. When I used to raise Chihuahuas, I would give the pups odd names just to watch the looks on people's faces when I would put the litters up for sale: "Hi, thanks for stopping by. This is the latest litter from my primary breeding pair... aren't they beautiful pups? Their names are Consternation, Sacrament, Riboflavin, Reverse, and Bob." Yeah, you should have seen people's reactions to those names.....
That is 100% true story, by the way. Footnote: poor Riboflavin was the runt of the litter, and he died before he was old enough to be weaned... then the father ate him. A friend asked me why the father would eat the dead pup, and you know what I said.....?

......are you ready for this....?

..... here it comes......

...... wait for it........

"He ate it because he needed more Riboflavin in his diet....!"

Honest to gosh true story.

Anyway, I still like the name Cleo... but Bianca is nice too. :D

Oh my goodness M-dude. That is a sad, sad story about your pups :( I like the unusual names though. That would be fun to mess with people's minds!

I kinda like Kiara from the list... Sounds like a strong female.

My cousin had a weimaraner named Sadie when I was growing up. I always thought that was a good name... but not Disney.

EDIT: More female Disney names to consider:

Abby as in Abby Mallard from Chicken Little
Big Momma from Fox and the Hound
Yzma from Emperor's New Groove
Clarabelle (Cow)
Lizzy from Meet the Robinsons
Lucky from 101 Dalmations
Mim (as in Madame Mim) from Sword in the Stone
Princess from 101 Dalmations
Rose (as in The Rose) from Alice in Wonderland
Sarabi from Lion King
Vixey from Fox and the Hound

Awesome names from everyone!!!

DW's favorite movie of all time is Beauty and the Beast (which I just bought her on Blu-Ray) so we have talked about "Belle". Problem is we have friends who have a beagle named Belle.

I thought about using Lilly...named after Walt's wife Lillian. We should be getting her in 2 weeks...so hopefully we will have a name picked out by then!

Hopefully you decide on a name! If you call her "hey you" for too long, that might stick!

If you like Beauty and the Beast, how about "Mrs. Potts?" Cool name for a dog... if you have twisted humor like mine.
Otherwise, how about "Babette?"
