Re: Disney Oppresses Young Woman
I side with Disney on this one. If she is so religious, how come it took her over 2 1/2 years to try and wear her hijab while at work and not just on a holiday like Ramadan? I don't see any christians trying to sue Disney for not being able to wear a necklace with a cross on it. I don't see any Jewish people suing Disney for not being able to wear a yamaka every day.

And when we find someone whose
Weirdness is compatible with ours,
We join up with them and fall in
Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

I personally believe that pornography is immoral. I don't force anyone to agree with me, and I don't go around criticizing and condemning any who believe that there's nothing wrong with it. But I certainly will not get a job at Playboy Inc. and then claim religious discrimination if they refuse to stop publishing porn.
I personally believe that while there's nothing wrong with alcohol itself, drunkenness is morally wrong. I don't force anyone to agree with me, and I don't go around criticizing and condemning any who believe that there's nothing wrong with fighting a terrible hangover in the morning. But I will certainly not get a job as a bartender and then claim religious discrimination if the manager demands that I stop telling customers they are only allowed one drink each.
If I personally believed that the McDonalds uniforms were inspired by the Devil, I certainly would not get a job there and then cry "religious discrimination" because my employer refuses to allow me to wear a Burger King uniform instead.
If I belonged to a cult that demands the ritual sacrifice of small rodents on every plate of food, I certainly would not get a job at a vegetarian restaurant and then cry about religious discrimination when my boss tells me that I can work in any position available except one that involves serving food to customers.
She knew what was expected of her when she agreed to work there, and she has been offered, and actually performed, other positions that do not conflict with her religious needs. It's about money and politics, nothing more and nothing less. It's sad. Just sad. I hope Disney stands up for themselves and wins.

Slow night DUDE? I enjoy putting my McDonald's uniform on, getting drunk. and making my rodents preform pornographic acts right before I sacrifice them while I'm with my cult buddies! Now I'm going to sue Mousekedude for religious discrimination!

Wow M-dude with a very interesting list of situations. You make a great point and I enjoyed your comparisons.

This is what she is saying in an interview:

I frankly don't really believe, she believes what she is saying. IMHO

Re: Disney Oppresses Young Woman
M-dude's comparisons bring to mind something that happened to my Mom and I a few months ago at a local McDonalds. We walk in, the tall young man behind the counter greets us cheerfully with, "Welcome to Walmart! Can I take your order?" Mom and I just sort of chuckled, looked at him and asked him if he used to work at Walmart. He replied no and asked why. So we told him and he said, "Oh no, I've been doing that today ~ I don't know why!"Len90 wrote:Wow M-dude with a very interesting list of situations. Now normally I like a seat away from the main section so as to have a more relaxing meal. But on this occasion I told Mom, "Let's sit here, right by the doors and see what happens!" And wouldn't you know, at least two more times while we were there he did the same thing!
Maybe I should let him in on this whole lawsuit business, maybe he could sue McDonalds for some sort of identity crisis or something
At least he was a cheerful employee and that should go a long way in today's retail sector

Unless she was fired, which she wasn't, then she is lying about not getting paid while not working. Wonder what else she is lying about?Jacca5660 wrote:This is what she is saying in an interview:

I am soooooo happy that my Subsonic family agrees that this is the most stupid farce of all time! I certainly hope that Disney holds their ground on this one, as there will be a lot more to follow if they don't. If not we might see Cinderella wearing a burka so not to offend the 7 people in the park that day that are muslim. Hold your ground Disney!!!! Fight fight fight!!

Seriously, I too am siding with Disney on this one. NaCler and Mousekedude both hit the nail on the head with this one.
I worked in a park where the standards were actually Disney level and we had those exact same appearance standards to uphold on a daily basis.
I hate to say it, but this just seems like another money plot....

Re: Disney Oppresses Young Woman
Put me in the group that sides with Disney on this one. As a business owner I feel that I have the right set certain expectations of my employees, including dress code, as long as they are on my timeclock. I have little doubt that Disney is very clear when a person is hired as to what they will and will not be allowed to wear as well as what the employee is required to wear. I have no problem with anyone expressing their beliefs or views when they are on their own time, but when my employees are at work and being paid by me, I expect them to represent my business in the way that I feel is best. If they do not agree with that they are free to find employment elsewhere.

I think that's the best any of us have summed up yet! I don't think anyone would find many here who would sign any on-line petition in favor of the employee - but we would for the support of the employer in this situation!cccmouse wrote:Put me in the group that sides with Disney on this one.
