For anyone who might find themselves in the area of St. George,Utah this summer there is a great outdoor theatre and one of the shows they're doing this year is Tarzan. We'll be going in a couple weeks to see the show...for my birthday (a coouple of days early)

http://www.tuacahn.org/

We have been a few times and the shows are always great! I hope some of you might get a chance to go.

That's actually pretty cool. I've never seen any outdoor theatre shows but I hope to hear your review about it!

I'll be sure to take some pics of at least the theatre...not sure if I'll be able to during the show.

That sounds interesting ~ is it put on by Disney or is it just a Disney show put on by a local group?

It's a Disney show put on by (mostly) local talent...but the quality of these shows is outstanding. It's not like watching a typical HS/local production. In fact, there is a Performing Arts HS attached to the theatre as well. We saw Les Miserables and The Sound of Music there before. This year in addition to Tarzan, we will see CATS. My parents saw their production of it several years ago and loved it!

I'm from (Coney Island) Brooklyn and live in (Chattanooga) Tennessee. Am I allowed in Utah?

I'm close to St. George, kinda... if I can drive to SLC I can keep going... I might have to consider this.

And YES Jacca you're allowed in Utah, we'd love to have you! Technically I'm in Idaho but I spend time in Utah so I can vouch for everyone.

If you get the chance, I highly recommend it! The theatre itself is beautiful, and we always have a great time when we go. I'm really looking forward to Tarzan though...I've always liked the music from the movie and I would imagine a show would be equally as good!

I might have to talk our very own hockeygirl into joining me next time she visits. It would be so much fun.

Well, we're back and we had a blast! Both shows were amazing, but since I'm mainly talking about Tarzan...that is the show I will review.

Tuacahn is the only place regionally to see this show. Through a special grant program they were able to put on the show...and though the original Disney show had a $20 million budget and Tuacahn does not, they pulled it off! I highly recommend the show for anyone who can make it out there! Attached are a few pics...sorry there aren't any of the show, as we were not allowed to take pictures.

The show poster in the waiting area
Image

The stage before the show. Notice the wires across the top of the stage...it kind of looks like two horizontal bars over the stage. This is actually some of the rigging for the flyers. There are over 150 flying stunts throughout the show!
Image

This picture was taken from house left/stage right. The green stuff are actually the tree sets for the show. The rusty metal train locomotive is one of the sets from CATS. The waterfall is actually pumping water from a pond and filling a small resevoir right behind the stage. If you remember the beginning of the movie, Tarzan's family's ship is sunk and the family floats to safety and starts life over on the island. Well, they actually physically flood the stage. In the picture of the stage before the show, you can see the resevoir right behind the stage and the waterfalls that provide the water. It's one of many truly unique features of this theatre.

Here is the mast of the family's ship that is wrecked.

We snapped this picture during intermission. This was the set up for "Trashin' the Camp".
Image

Here is the stage after the show was over.
Image

After the show, the actors were out in the waiting area signing autographs and taking pictures. Here are a couple we took. The first one is a couple of apes who were still in character. There were apes everywhere jumping around and interacting with people. The costumes were made out of strips of T-shirts among other fabrics.
Image

Here is Young Tarzan and Terk.
Image

It was really crowded and we were in a bit of a hurry so we didn't get a whole lot of pictures afterward.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and I hope that maybe some of you will get to go see the show!
