Carousel of Progress and Iron Man II
In the new film Iron Man II, Tony Stark's father Howard Stark is a parody of Walt Disney. His Stark Expo is a parody of the 1964 World's Fair that Disney premiered It's A Small World. In an old movie shown in the film, Howard Stark shows his vision for a future city (a parody of Walt Disney's film introducing his experimental prototype community of tomorrow - even complete with the board model!). The Stark Expo even has its own theme music which is a parody of "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow."
Now here's the ironic humor of the parody song titled "Make Way for Tomorrow Today": it is written by Richard Sherman, who wrote the original lyrics to the "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" and "It's A Small World". As his brother is not around with us anymore to compose the music, the music for the song was composed by the movie's score composer, John Debney. While Debney is known for many film scores, to many here on subsonic he's famous for composing the haunting score to Disneyland Paris's Phantom Manor.
If you see the film, stay through the ending credits. The song is presented in its entirity during the ending credits of Iron Man II. Oddly, it does remind me of the Carousel of Progress....
...then again, as Disney now owns Marvel, I guess that makes Iron Man II now a Disney film in a way, so there's another Disney-Iron Man II connection...

You will have to wait if you want that soundtrack. Like most films if they have rock band's songs involved, the song CD from the film gets issued first, and much later down the road the actual film score gets released on the CD. Tim Burton's first Batman film with Prince started this trend, and Hollywood has followed this miserable formula ever since over and over. You can get the Iron Man II "Soundtrack" that has the AC/DC songs now on the CD, but the actual John Debney film score will not be released in the stores until July 7, 2010!

I am patient, and July is just around the corner...I have noticed this trend and am not a fan. I generally like the background music in films more than the band's songs anyhow...mindflipper wrote:You will have to wait if you want that soundtrack. Back in the 1980's this trend started. In some cases, the film score was never released at all back then. Take Back To the Future for instance; when it came out in 1985, the "soundtrack" album was just the songs with only one track with the theme song by Silvestri. It wasn't until last year - 2009! - was the entire soundtrack score released on limited-edition CD. Many other soundtracks from back then - such as James Horner's scores for Something Wicked This Way Comes and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids - have also been released recently in the same fashion with limited-edition CD's in the past year.
The limited edition CD of Something Wicked This Way Comes has already sold out from the manufacturer.

We saw it yesterday and Howard Stark & the Expo totally reminded me of Walt Disney presenting his idea for EPCOT.....I wonder how many people who aren't huge fans of Disney noticed this.elizabethswann wrote:I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that! My step-dad and I mentioned it when we saw it the first time.
Did not stay for the end song at the credits, too bad

The next time you do see it, stay after the credits because there's also a post-credits scene.disneylizzy wrote:We saw it yesterday and Howard Stark & the Expo totally reminded me of Walt Disney presenting his idea for EPCOT.....I wonder how many people who aren't huge fans of Disney noticed this.elizabethswann wrote:I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that! Why would it be done in a mean-spirited way. Did you see how much Disney is going to make from Iron Man 2?mindflipper wrote:At least the parody was done in a positive manner and not any mean-spirited way. Although, I wondered if in Iron Man 3 we discover Howard Stark is cryogenically frozen in the basement of Stark Labortories and thawed out....
