If you could meet a Disney Legend...

Movies, TV, music, and more. Here's the place to talk about anything Disney outside of the parks.

If you could meet a Disney Legend...

Post by MmeLeota » Apr Tue 13, 2010 4:24 pm

...who would it be? (aside from Walt himself...we would all have loved to meet the man who created such an empire!)

There are so many people who have done so much for the Company over the years, that it's a difficult decision.

Deceased - Marc Davis, Paul Frees and Thurl Ravenscroft

Alive - Hayley Mills, Julie Andrews and Annette Funicello

It's really very difficult to just pick a few...there are so many! These are the first that came to mind.

Deceased - Thurl Ravenscroft, Paul Frees, The Nine Old Men, Eartha Kitt

Alive - Julie Andrews, Dick van Dyke, the Sherman Brothers, Kathryn Beaumont

There are other celebrities out there that are Disney Legends that I would meet but these are the ones I'd love to meet the most.

The Army general the brought WDW in on time! That was an amazing feat!! Also would love to meet the original design team for DL. To put that much in such a small space while being so far ahead of what everyone thought was the cutting edge of technology! That's just down right cool!!

Remember, before NASA even thought about going to the moon, THEY BUILT DISNEY!!!

Hmm, I'd probably want to meet Thurl Ravenscroft. I love his voice.

My Mom got to meet Julie Andrews once at EPCOT when she (Dame Andrews, not my Mom) was there doing a book promotion with her daughter. I would love to meet any of the "Nine Old Men" who worked with Walt...any current Imagineer would be awesome too although they wouldn't be considered legends yet...

I have a lifelong friend who's been a tech at Epcot for almost 20 years now. The current "Imagineers" are mostly contract people! It's not like the old days. You do have a company engineers, but it's not like pre-Eisner. EISNER killed that!!

Oh, that is sad :( That is what I really want to do someday. Not brave enough to try it in this economy though...

WOW! That's amazing!

We got to briefly meet Bob Gurr, Richard Sherman, Tony Baxter and Kathryn Beaumont. I loved hearing them tell the stories of what working directly with Walt was like...and Mr. Sherman is the BEST storyteller!!!!

I heard that Julie was in the parks last fall signing autographs for her new book. I so wanted to be able to send DD to that event. Julie Andrews is her heroine.

Since I can't meet the folks who are dead, I'll stick with the folks that I still have a chance with. In addition to Julie Andrews, I'd like to meet Marty Sklar someday. He did so much to promote and expand WED Enterprises and Imagineering. I'd love to hear him talk about it.

I would probably want to meet Bob Gurr or Marty Sklar. The stories they would be able to tell about Disneyland and WDW would be priceless. Maybe a nice trip to Disneyland with them walking me around the park...then a nice lunch at Club 33. That would be about the next best thing to Walt himself.

I would be on cloud nine and probably so enamored that I wouldn't be able to even interact...(that's what happened when I met Mr. Gurr! I had a major DUH moment! )

As far as Mr. Sherman goes, he is such a great storyteller! And he loves to tell them...At the D23 Expo there was an exhibit with items from the archives there. We were looking at the Mary Poppins dress and this guy stood right next to me. He was looking at the dress and smiling and I realized it was Richard Sherman! His family was there with him as well. I immediately moved over so his family could squeeze in and DH and I shook his hand and thanked him for all of his hard work over the years, especially the song "Feed the Birds" which is my favorite. (we also discussed the celebration for Walt's 100th birthday, but that's another story) He smiled and was very gracious and proceeded to tell a story about the dress to us and his family...it was like being a part of the family for a brief moment. Something we'll always remember!
