Favorite Disney Live-Action Movies

Post by MmeLeota » Apr Thu 01, 2010 4:55 pm

I'm sure there's a topic like this already out there, but I couldn't find one.

Since we have an animated movie topic, I thought we should give some love to the live action movies too!

So, let's have 'em...what's your favorite Disney live action movies?

I love The Parent Trap (the original), Summer Magic (ok, just about any of the Hayley Mills movies), Merlin Jones movies, Return to Oz, Newsies, Pete's Dragon...the list could go on! :D

This is going to be a loooooong list for me. Bear with me on this.

Return to Oz, Flight of the Navigator, Escape to Witch Mountain/Return from Witch Mountain, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, The Mighty Ducks trilogy (my all-time favorite), The Santa Clause, Hocus Pocus, Heavyweights, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey The Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Treasure Island, 101 Dalmatians, George of the Jungle, Inspector Gadget, The Princess Diaries 1-2, Holes, Pirates of the Caribbean (though I'm more into the first two), The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.... and that's it.

You've got quite a few in there I'm a fan of too...Mighty Ducks, Homeward Bound, Hocus Pocus, Lion Witch and the Wardobe (a fave book of mine), ANY Muppet movie (though I know they're not all Disney), both Princess Diaries movies, The Santa Clause movies, Holes, Witch Mountain movies...

I also left out Watcher in the Woods (still creeps me out), Tower of Terror, and The Cat from Outer Space (love it!). We just found Something Wicked this Way Comes with Jonathon Pryce on DVD and had to buy it!

There were also 2 TV movies that I liked as a kid too. Child of Glass and Mr. Boogedy.
I know there's more I'm leaving out....

TRON <3

Also Pirates, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Pete's Dragon, Dragonslayer, Watcher in the Woods, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and Enchanted. As a kid I watched The Cat from Outer Space and the Witch Mountain movies a zillion times but I haven't seen them in years.

Oh yes...TRON! I have to admit, I liked it better the older I got...As a kid, it was more of a "boys" movie to me.

(it's impossible for me to pick 1 movie to like...I like them all!!!! Roger Rabbit and Enchanted included!)

Arete: no one ever brings up the Watcher in the Woods or Something Wicked This Way Comes! Of the old films, SWTWC was one of my favorites. Pryce was creepy and frightening as Mr. Dark, and yet so comical when he showed up in my other newer, favorite live-action film, POTC: the Black Pearl.

Watcher in the Woods was a good attempt, just didn't make it all the way. Like so many Disney films, good story and good stars - just couldn't make a good film with all that. Shame.

I mentioned these movies earlier too...and that we recently found Something Wicked on DVD and had to buy it! :)

Ouch! You're right, MmeLeota! I wasn't paying attention!

I got it on DVD too (as well as own the LD to show you how old I am!) - and just recently got the James Horner soundtrack that was released on CD just a few months ago.

No biggie...there's been so many movies I like, they kind of all mush together I suppose...

Does it show age when I understand the "LD" reference?

I didn't know the sountrack was released on DVD!!!! I'll have to look for it!

A movie hubby is looking for is Tiger Town. (I vaguely remember this one and only because it was on VHS at one point) He had the opportunity to ask Dave Smith if it might be released on DVD, but Mr. Smith said probably not. I guess originally it was a TV movie that was only showed in the midwest (since it's about the Detroit Tigers). We're hoping this changes though...

A couple more to add to the list...Not Quite Human, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit, Gus, The Ugly Dachshund...

It probably helped me that my brother and I are only a year apart. We generally watched together all the Disney movies we could get our hands on at the rental place. He loved The Black Hole as well as TRON; I was definitely more partial to TRON. Even now Maximilian from TBH gives me the willies.

I liked them as a kid because they were spooky. I'd lie in our basement family room with the lights off right in front of the tv. I saw SWTWC on DVD last year and had to buy it right then.

LD = LaserDisc. The pre-cursor to the current DVD's, but they're the size of the old LP Albums, not CD size like DVD's. Back then, many LD's came where you could play it with the isolated soundtrack, as was in the case of Something Wicked This Way Comes. Disney could have done the same for DVD, but didn't. (Beetlejuice when it was released on LD came with the isolated score on it, and the DVD had it too).

As for the soundtrack CD that was released - sorry! - I notice its out of stock:

Turns out it was a limited edition.
