Eight injuries reported at Disney World during third quarter

Walt Disney World reported eight guest injuries during the third quarter of the year, according to updated state filings, most of which occurred following rides on various thrill attractions.
But for the second quarter in a row, none of the state’s other major theme parks — Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Wet ‘n Wild — reported a single notable injury.
The combined, April-through-September timeframe included some of the busiest travel periods of the year, including Easter, spring break and the entire summer. Universal alone had approximately 5.2 million visitors during the six-month period.
State regulators rely on the big theme parks to voluntarily report significant injuries. The injuries are typically defined as any requiring an immediate hospital stay of at least 24 hours.
The injuries Disney reported in the quarter included: a 31-year-old woman who had a seizure after getting off of Rock ‘n Roller Coaster and a 50-year-old woman who experienced chest pains and shortness of breath after riding the same coaster; a 54-year-old man who had a seizure after riding Star Tours; a 40-year-old man who fell and broke his right wrist while getting off of Test Track; a 52-year-old woman who complained of dizziness and memory loss after riding Mission: Space; a 66-year-old man who felt ill after riding Expedition Everest; a 74-year-old woman who lost her balance on the unloading belt of Peter Pan’s Flight, fell, hit her head and broke a wrist; and a 57-year-old woman who passed out after riding and exiting Splash Mountain and fractured her skull after collapsing on a concrete floor.

They seem like they could, for the most part, been avoided if people would head the warning signs. Someone got hurt on Peter Pan!

My family and I saw an old guy fall at Peter Pan, getting out of the flying boat onto the moving plat form. They made such a big deal out of it. Since we saw it happen, they gave us fast passes for "Winnie the Pooh" to make us happy again.

I can't understand why people don't read the warnings. They are all over the place. The one exception is Test Track, if you drove to Disney you should be able to handle it.

I have to agree with Jacca. I really wonder how many of these were underlying conditions that people just failed to read warnings about.

Likewise, Jacca and Len. It really boggles my mind how people ignore warnings and then want to blame Disney for their problems (not to say that is what happened in each of these cases, but you know what I mean...) Interestingly, most of them were older folks who really should be very cautious about this sort of stuff anyway. And what do people expect Disney to do, stop old folks from going on risky rides? Could you just imagine the uproar if a CM tried to do that: "I'm sorry ma'am, you look too old and frail to get on this ride, I can't let you on..."
Can you imagine?! They'd be screaming "age discrimination....!!!!" and then want to sue.
People just need to be responsible for their own actions and accept the consequences of their own decisions.
And the stupid news media need to be more responsible and stop trying to create a scandal out of everything, if you ask me.... But that's another subject...

Who knows what is wrong with any of us until you break. A few of these people didn't know they had a condition till they got sick. And poor Disney gets the blame right away, in big bold letters. Then latter, in small print, they write the person had pre-exisiting conditions that no one knew about. Same thing happens to a few athletes I have read about. Just dropped dead on court...... Now on the flip side, some are just plan stupid.

Personal responsibility is a thing of the past. Now, it seems, the attitude is, If I get hurt I'll sue!! By the way, when it comes to Test Track, how could not know? We all drive and know what it does to you when there's a close call. What do you have one of those at least every six months! This isn't Space Mountain or R&R!!Mousekedude wrote:Likewise, Jacca and Len. People have to take notice of these warning signs. If they ignore the signs is it Disney's fault I say NO.
I can however feel for the guy on Everest, I have been on this ride several times now and I feel weak and giddy every time I get off. Joe90 says its just an adrenalin rush and he is probably right, but for a 66 year old this rush could feel like something more serious.
Does it stop me riding, no it does not but then I don't have any medical problems if I did I would not ride it, better safe than sorry.
