Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter

I was online this morning and saw a look at Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter on Celebtv.com

I am not sure if that pop-up will come up for you all or not. He and Tim Burton have such a great relationship I am sure this movie will be in their true fashion. No sure if I like the costume......will have to wait and see.

Gotta get back to work, I just wanted to try to get on here and post the 1st pics I have seen of him as the Mad Hatter

I love it!!! Ive been a fan of Johnny Depp now for a while now based on his exuberant acting skills. He is extremely talented and have enjoyed a lot of his roles in the past. Usually when he works with Tim Burton its a great thing and I for one cannot wait to see this movie! I also enjoy Tim Burtons directing skills and the way he makes his movies.

I actually liked the way his costume looks for this role. It falls in line with the dark style Tim Burton is famous for. This should be an interesting take on Alice in Wonderland.

Interesting costume, but as will all of the movies with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, I am sure this one will be odd and totally worth seeing.

Wow! He's crazy looking in that costume! I'm sure he will fit the roll perfectly! I've been a Johnny Depp fan for a long time!!!

Haha - he looks a little creepy (I'd much rather see him as Jack Sparrow), but I'm excited to see it nonetheless.

A bit strange, but what can you expect with two strange things - Tim Burton and Alice in Wonderland. Should be interesting, but I'll wait to see how dark the movie is before actually going to the theater.

I'm assuming it will be Burton's adaptation of the book...which is a dark story already. To me there are only 2 people who could do that story justice in a film...Kubrick and Burton. Burton's will be a light-hearted creepy where Kubrick's would have been a scary/twisted creepy. Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors of all time and I think he is the best character actor the industry has ever seen. Tom Hanks is up there too...but Depp just seems to be able to completely convince you that he is not himself...but rather his outrageous character. This should be a good one.

I can't wait! Alice in Wonderland has been my favorite movie since I was a kid and seeing Johnny Depp play the Mad Hatter will be good. Even if it is the darker version.

He does look creepy but he does fit that title whenever he's working with Tim Burton. I'm very excited to see how this one will turn out because I love a dark movies so I hope Burton does a good job.

I'm sorry, but why does Tim Burton always make Johnny Depp look exactly the same in all his films? Willy Wonka, Sweeney Todd, The Mad Hatter... even hat clay-mation character of Depp in The Corpse Bride... all had extremely white skin, blackened eyes, weird hair...

he just ALWAYS looks the same... and Depp can play a variety of characters. it's a shame that Burton doesn't use that to his advantage...

This is how I feel as well. So many ways to make him look, and it's like yet another repeat of the basics of his looks in the other films. I was cautiously optimistic about this movie, but that picture is not very heartening. I'll still hope for the best, though.

If you think about it, most of Burton's films are similar. I know Depp has range but I'm not sure Burton does.

That said, I'm looking forward to this, as I do all things Depp/Burton-ish. A lot of the costumes look really cool, and when you combine Depp Hatter with Alan Rickman Caterpillar, I'm pretty much sold from the word go.

oh, I'm sure that Burton does not design EVERYTHING in EVERY movie he makes. He gives the idea of what he thinks a scene should look like, and then the CAST and CREW make those ideas into what we see. They have the opportunity to say they don't like something and have it changed. The director of a film is not the end-all-be-all of the movie industry...

We'll have to agree to disagree there. I think the director is ... the director - or driving force, if you want - of most of the visual expression of a film. He (or she) also has the choice over which and which kind of movies he (or she) chooses to become involved with. Most of what Burton does is very similar; he has a distinct niche he tends to work in (which I think he does pretty well). But you won't convince me that he wanted Depp to look completely different than that (or than he did in Sweeney, or Edward Scissorhands or whatever) and it was a random make up artist who said "NO WE'RE DOING IT THIS WAY!"

I do agree that if Depp had a problem with it, he'd probably say something, though. Obviously he doesn't or he'd stop doing films with Tim. He does other stuff too, though, whereas Burton doesn't (at least not usually). Thus my earlier comment about range.

I've heard good things about this movie. I'm definitely open to Burton's interpretaton, as long as it's not too macabre.
