Kingdom Hearts Prequels
Saw that there are a lot of fans of the Kingdom Hearts franchise here, and thought I'd link to this story I saw on 1up:
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3162386
Looks like they'll be developing some prequels, although there's not much other info available yet.

I take any rumors like this with a grain of salt. until Square-Enix and/or Disney officially release something, I'm inclined to dis-believe it...

1Up tends to post some less than accurate stuff (for instance, they have a North American release date for FM+ posted as Jan 1/08 ... haven't heard anything official about that -anywhere-), but there are actually a number of interviews with Tetsuya Nomura where he suggests that the next game won't be so much KH3 as it will be a prequel to do with the 'Keyblade wars'. They're still nebulous, like all of the KH team interviews are, but worth a read.
Link
And one I posted in the other KH thread a while back.

Hmmmmm. Well, its just that to me, Kingdom Hearts is the crossover between Final Fantasy- esque characters and Disney characters. I'm not sure how they could really juggle the two together, since Sora meets the Donald and Goofy in the first game and not beforehand. And if they did an ONLY Sora, Kairi and Riku game.......... it wouldn't have the same exact quality. But I do agree, another Kingdom Hearts game would be cool, especially for the Wii or PS3.DisBeamer wrote:What makes you say that? A direct prequel, say with Sora and friends growing up on the islands might not be that interesting, but expanding on the so-called Keyblade Wars certainly has a lot of 'sense-making' potential.Phantasmo wrote:A Kingdom Hearts Prequel? Ahhh I see. Have a look at the links I posted a few posts above and you'll see that the 'prequel' game is not supposed to involve Sora at all, really, or Riku/Kairi/Roxas/anyone, but rather the three soldiers from the 'secret' movie. They're supposedly connected to Sora and friends somehow, but how isn't clear yet.Phantasmo wrote:Hmmmmm. I would assume that if Sora wasn't around, Donald and Goofy wouldn't be either. I don't know what it'd mean overall for the Disney/FF characters though. Although the secret movie stuff is supposed to relate to how Mickey got his Keyblade, so presumably Disney charries'd still be in there to some degree - just maybe not one's we've seen before?
The prevailing news for the 'prequel-ish' game is that it'll be for a handheld platform. I would love to see the next game -in- the series for Wii though. In the meantime I'll be saving up for my PS3, just in case, 'cause a KH game is probably the thing that'll inspire me to buy one.

don't forget how Mickey comes to meet Ansem the Wise, as the Secret Ansem Reports indicate in KH2. or how Kairi ends up on Destiny Islands after Hallow Bastion (Radiant Garden) was overtaken by Darkness.Although the secret movie stuff is supposed to relate to how Mickey got his Keyblade

I am definitely looking forward to the next KH game and that I trust the story will be just as great as the two previous stories were.

Especially with the graphics of newer gaming systems. There haven't been that many great games for the Wii or the PS3 so a KH prequel would probably make them more exciting.broncoflyer8912 wrote:I am definitely looking forward to the next KH game and that I trust the story will be just as great as the two previous stories were.

UPDATE:
IGN just reported from the Tokyo Game Show:
September 19, 2007 - In a closed doors video montage session at TGS 2007 Square showed off three upcoming titles based in the Kingdom Hearts universe. Though the trailers were brief, all the titles seem to incorporate the same kind of action-RPG gameplay of the previous games.
On display were trailers for Kingdom Hearts Coded for mobile, Kingdom Hearts 358 / 2 Days for DS, and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for PSP. No specific release dates were given for any of the titles, save for a "work in progress" text flashed at the end of each trailer.
Story details were sketchy, but it appears Birth by Sleep will be set in "the distant past," according to text in the trailer. 358 / 2 (called 358 over two), whose title, said Square, will apparently make sense once you play the game, will take place somewhere around the events of Kingdom Hearts 2. Coded appears to be set somewhere during the course of the first KH and its sequel, indicated in the trailer with a line of text reading "time has gone by." The overall timeline is a bit muddled, though, something a Square representative admitted to while we were asking for further explanation.
Coded's gameplay had Sora running around various dungeons filled with floating red and black blocks. During battle it's possible to engage a "debugging" mode to clear away the blocks, but their exact nature and implications with regard to gameplay were not clear. 358 / 2 had a darker thematic element than KH games of the past, with all the characters, including Mickey, draped in flowing black robes. It appeared to support some kind of four player mode, though it just may have been one human player with three AI companions. Birth by Sleep featured an unidentifiable playable character during the gameplay portions of the trailer.
Naturally, a host of Disney characters were also present in each of the trailers. Stay tuned for more as we hear it.
