Coney Island

Post by Jacca5660 » Apr Fri 13, 2007 3:13 pm

I have family in NYC (We are Coney Island Natives) and I'm hearing a rumor that Disney is thinking about building some kind of venue in Coney Island. I know there's a company that is going to build an enclosed park where Astroland is now. (Building is going to get started after this summer season)
I can't find anything either way on this one. Does anybody have any kind of infomation??

I remember hearing about this a few years ago. I thought they stopped investigating the options now. Maybe things have started again? Will be interesting to see....

There's a company coming in and building two enclosed parks at the cost of several 100 million dollars. One is going to be a theme park and the other a water park, they'll both be year round. I was told by a family member that they had heard Disney was taking a hard look at building a venue in Coney Island. I thought some one might have read something on the subject.

There's one like that in the Poconos, let me find the website.

It is a year round park and water resort, with temps constantly in the 70's or 80's.

I believe this is the final year for Astroland. I plan on getting on all the rides before that happens.

Are you a member of ACE?? My family lives on Staten Island. Do you know CoasterDainan? Did you read how they're going to enclose the new park?? There's a rumor that Disney may be doing a venue. Being a Coney native, I'd love to see some of the old glory brought back!!

Disney was looking at Coney Island but another developer has purchased the area and is looking to turn it into a resort-like area. Here's a link for more information.

My sister-in-law and nephew have been to the Great Wolf Lodge a few times. It's very expensive but a great get-a-way in the winter. The water park is inside. It was my understand that the same company that runs the GWL is also doing the work at Coney Island. I agree with BuDz211 that Disney is not involved. I must admit it would be cool to just take a subway ride to a disney park
