Umm... is this legal?

So, I bought some of the DVD's from extinct attractions.com and they are basically someone's home movies spliced together to look nice. Now, they are selling MP3's of music from the park - isn't that copyrighted material? How legal is this? I'm not trying to be a downer or a cop (I was actually thinking about buying the EPCOT one) but I don't want to get into trouble or anything...

anyone know the finer points of copyright law?

I'm no expert, but I'm doubting it's legality. Sockfire, you know anything about this stuff? You seem to be all-knowing lately (in a good way) :wink:

Well I would say myself that yeah it is TECHNICALLY illegal but its kind of like coming to a red light at 4 am in the morning in the middle of nowhere with nobody around, its illegal to run it but nobody is going to notice it. Also since Disney isnt releasing things like this themselves I know we aren't taking money out of their pockets, at least thats what I think I could be wrong.

You'd think that they wouldn't really care, but big media companies get pretty uptight about their copyrights. I remember reading a story about a Dawson's Creek fan site that used to post the transcript of each episode so that fans who couldn't watch the episode could follow the show. They didn't charge a dime...they just put the transcipts up on their site for all to see. WB threatened the site with a lawsuit if they didn't pull the transcripts off the site immediately because it was violating their copyright. You'd think that WB would actually LIKE the site to put the transcripts up to build enthusiasm for the show since they weren't trying to sell the transcripts themselves...but they threatened to sue anyways. There are many other similar stories.

I think it's probably legal or they would have been shut down by now. But I don't know for sure. Has anyone bought these discs yet? They seem to have a really great mix of tracks.

I am sure "Big Brother" is watching. If Disney or one of it's subsidiaries had a problem it would be known by now.

I have been offered to put up banners and radio ads. People ask if I make money off the merchandice. People have even offered to donate money. I don't take any of this for fear of Disney coming after me. Heck, they still might even come after me. That would suck...

I was told that one doesn't charge for the music, you charge for the cost of material (c.d., dvd, ect..), shipping and handeling....
Iam not in the legal profession and am not giving legal advice, just repeating allitle of what i have heard. I have been searching for Free music down loads, got a few, looking for all i can get. Can anyone show me some links.
