WDW Job Advice

I was wondering if anyone had some advice for my father-in-law. When we all move to FLA, my father-in-law wants to work in WDW. So any of you past or present cast members please help me out.

This is his list of questions:

• What's a good job in the Parks or orther locations to have?
  How many hours do you have to work to get Benefits?
  Whats the average pay?
  What benefits are available?
  What perks do you get working for WDW?
  How do you go about getting a job in WDW?

What's a good job in the Parks or orther locations to have?
I have only worked at one place in WDW, Epcot Future World Attractions and I absolutely love it! other areas to consider would probably be resorts ( a few of my friends are maintence, waiters, front desk and LOVE it). Attractions are super fun though!

How many hours do you have to work to get Benefits?
If you're full time (40 hours) they offer full benefits, part time they offer some benefits.

Whats the average pay?
6.90 to start for attractions. Characters are a bit more, besides that no clue!

What benefits are available? That I'm not sure on (I'm part time and am aware I can get some benefits, but I don't, still listed under my parents).

What perks do you get working for WDW?
SO MANY!!! You can into the parks for free anytime yourself(awesome!). You get a maingate pass (if you are full or part time) with 12 times a year on it for up to 3 people each time (these do have black out dates, mostly in December and Spring break time) to get into WDW,DLR, Hong Kong Disneyland, and DLP and The Disney Studios in France AND they are park hoppers (when you come in you get a park hopper ticket for the 3 in your party). You also get four comp tickets a year that are good for ANY Disney park that don't expire for 2 years. You get a 20% off meal discount in any sit-down WDW restaurant before 4:00 PM and after 8:30 PM (at Animal Kingdom youcan get it anywhere because they have no sit-down restaurants, except Rainforest outside the park). 20% off merchandise year round. Also room discounts at hotels! At Christmas time you get a Holiday pass good for a few months for 3 people, and a nifty coupon book with tons of stuff in there! Also 40% off merchandise at Christmas time! Theres probably more but this is all I can remember!

How do you go about getting a job in WDW?
Call the job line at 407-828-1000. You'll be scheduled for an interview when you call. The interview process last around 3 hours with a lot of paper work and sitting around. They just ask you general questions and also act happy and dress nicely! if you want a Cast Member referral, I'd be happy to give you one!

I've applied at Disneyland 4 times now. (Worked there 2 times)

The reason I didn't get a call back the two times is because I didn't say I was fully available.
The trick to getting a job (other than having a good personallity) is mark that you're fully available on your application, even if you're not. Make the time to come in for the interview. When you get hired, go through training. Then, when it comes time to scheduling, tell them the hours you can work. I don't think scheduling and human resources talk to each other. Plus, they aren't going to fire you because you have a more difficult schedule after they've paid for your training and such.

Anyone know what carpenters get there. If not I'll find out later when I get in the union. I would love to get on the build teams. Ofcourse if they use an outside contracter then it is kind of "Cool my company is doing the work" kind of thing.

So, rdeacon, were you planning on the move anytime soon? I have to admit, I'm jealous. My husband and I would love to go to Flordia for 2-3 months a year and work at WDW! Alas, we still have 4-1/2 years before our youngest even goes to college. Our dreams will have to wait . . . in the meantime, we'll enjoy Disney as vacationers every year.

I wish I lived close enough to Disney to work. I've even thought about taking a weekend job, but between the thirty minute drive, child rearing, school work, and wife time, I just can't justify it. I'd kill to work at Epcot, or maybe AKL.

I want to work for Disney doing Networking or Network Security. That would be awesome. Especially if it was at WDW.

I would love to do Carpentry for them but first I need to make some money so I can move out and pay for a place to live.

What the radio thing? That would be great for you but of course they would probably make you charge us or something so not the greatest for us. Although you would have access to way more audio tracks than now. Think of the collection you would have.

Thanks for all the info. My dreams are alot like you guy's. I want to work ay Walt Disney World doing anything. But I can't afford the pay cut. Maybe after retireing they will give me a broom, or some maps to hand out @ the gates. Winning the Lottery is also part of my retirement plans.
