Disney+ (Netflix style) Pay for service Coming soon!

Post by cousininmiami » Mar Fri 15, 2019 12:49 pm

I am pretty excited about the prospect of the (supposed) entire Disney library in the new Disney+ pay for service coming out this year sometime!

I'm wondering if the total library really means that, because if so then it will be incredible! I'm most looking forward to the really really old stuff, and maybe some of the Disney Channel movies that are unavailable anywhere!

So what is everyone looking forward to?

From what I've been reading, it is indeed supposed to include everything. I'd love to see Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century again. I was able to watch that at the fire department when I was working there (we didn't have cable at home, but we did at the station) and I really enjoyed it. I'm guessing like other past favorites, it might not hold up to the test of time, but it would be nice to see again. I think it was on ABC at some point too and I watched it then as well.
The big question is, will they have Song of the South? If they do, I bet they would get a lot more subscribers, at least for the first month.

Amy, funny that you would mention Zenon... that too was one of my favorite movies so I bought it one time, got a digital copy and the DVD. I still love that movie! I just need to locate where the DVD is and I will sent it to you! And as for Song of the South?? I would love to see it again too!

How about Luck of the Irish, Smart House, Fifteenth Year to name a few! I watched these with my kids when they were little and loved them! I would love to see the really old stuff, like the Hardy Boys mysteries, Dad, Can I borrow the Car?, old original Disney cartoons, and old Mickey Mouse Club etc. I can seriously imagine going completely crazy if some of the old "Disneyland" show are on there, like the one with the Osmonds in Disneyland and older ones from the 1960's from the park!

But for now... we wait.

That would be great!
I haven't seen any of those first three you mentioned. I want to say I saw some Hardy Boys, but I might just be remembering the books. We read them all.
I have seen some of the old Disneyland shows. I have the DVD of that that came out as a "Disney Vault" edition ~ the Osmonds was pretty neat!

Inappropriate stereotypes notwithstanding, I love "Song of the South"! It can be used as a teachable moment, too, about treating others right. I wish they'd bring it back, even if accompanied by a short documentary about how times were different when it was made.

I would love to see Song of the South again as well. For example, isn't Gone With The Wind still available to purchase and watch? I think that movie will be on this coming Sunday on TCM. That of course is not a Disney movie.... but however its of the same genre and time period.

Amy, also that Disney show is called "Showtime" you can search for it on Youtube here is the link: https://youtu.be/zYbFTkYtHjY also a really good one (seriously a favorite) is called: From Pirates of the Caribbean to the World of Tomorrow, this one is awesome!! Here is that link: https://youtu.be/C_NTvnZ6s9A

I'm hoping they will put all of these shows on!!! And if I'm in trouble and going to Subsonic jail for putting a link of something on then just erase my comment. Tee Hee

Has anyone already signed up for Disney+...there was a deal at the end of August for D23 members (free tier included) to pre-pay for 3 years at a little more than $4/mo. I'm not sure if there is still any sort of deal out there for D23 members or not, but it doesn't hurt to check...especially if the membership is free. Last I heard, the going rate is $6.99/mo, $69.99/year. I know they've also mentioned some sort of Hulu/ESPN/Disney+ deal, but I haven't seen anything about that yet. We already pay for Hulu (no commercials), and the one included with the deal is supposed to be the "regular" Hulu...so we won't be giving that up. Against our better judgement (and much to the chagrin of our wallet), we went ahead and did the 3 year deal. it was too good to pass up.

It also sounds like they won't be releasing everything all at once. It sounds like they will have some content at first, then add more as time goes on. I would not be surprised if they rotate content much like Hulu and Netflix do now. I sure am hoping to get some of the old Vault Disney stuff they used to show late at night (like the original MMC), along with some hard to find movies (like Tiger Town).

Either way, we're bound to have endless choices on what to watch.

I'm going to probably wait until Black Friday and see if they have a deal. Last year Hulu did a crazy $1/month for a year promo that day and you never know - Disney might try something similar.

I agree with Alacrity: park in Disney Springs and either take a bus from there or Uber. Until they start charging to park in DS of course!
