My, Christopher Robin, you've changed

Link to an article that says that Disney is replacing Christopher Robin from the Pooh series with a 6 year old tomboyish girl.

Personally I think its kind of sad. I always identified with Christopher Robin as a boy, as my name, Christopher Bird, was so similar.

Also another thing in the article talks about the new Pooh series that will have this new character in it, will be in the 3-D computer animation style, not the old 2-D hand drawn Pooh and Tigger we have come to love. But if I am not mistaken, Disney couldn't do a 2-D show if they wanted as they have shut down all traditional animation in favor of the 3-d type animation.[/url]

Actually they have the Television Animation Studios. That is where most of the sequals came from.

I heard that they have recently announced that they are shutting down that, too.

Is nothing sacred? Seriously, what is the point - Pooh and the gang seem to be holding their own just fine - if it ain't broke why fix it?

My thoughts exactly. Pooh is selling just fine. It is mostly a female market though. Maybe they are trying to make it an ALL female market. I don't know why. Again, it's selling just fine.

What's next? Making Dumbo female? Snow White male? Disney's lost their marbles. I'm really starting to get to the point where I hope they fail. It's really losing it's magic in my eyes. I wouldn't renew my pass if it wasn't something to "do".

Sadly I agree with you Sub, the magic seems to be fading from Disney on so many levels. I am nostalgic for the old ways and the old Disney of yesteryear! Like from the 50's - 60's!! I love looking in the vault at the old films from way back. Pixar is good in its own right, like Disney was when Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and all of that was born. I hate this new technology....the name escapes me (CG engineering??) the way Polar Express was done, those kids looked spooky to me, not realistic! Creepy big heads and eyes.............LOL That's just my opinion though! I am a huge Winnie the Pooh fan, and I say leave Christopher Robin alone!!

CGI - Computer Generated Imagery. I love the advancements they've made from the first CG shorts. Some of the stuff they can do is simply amazing. Like the abilty to make things like hair, wanter, clothing look realistic. these are things that just can't be done with traditional 2D animationPeople are still kinda hard to do, but I think they did well with Shrek and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

And, I agree with the general sentiment here about pooh. Everywhere I look, I see people buying/wearing/watching things Pooh related. Of course, of everything I've seen (even in games like Kingdom Hearts), Christopher Robin doesn't play a big (if any) part in the story line. I think that most people already know that the Hundred Acre Wood and all of Pooh's adventures are that of CR's imagination. But, as I've seen over the past 15 - 20 years, CR has been slowly phased out anyways.

Oh no! They can't get rid of Christopher Robin. That is so tragic. Here I am studying for finals and Disney has to pull a ridiculous stunt like that. G2-4T is right. Why fix something that ain't broke? Everyone adores Christopher Robin and though the stories center around Pooh and his friends, they all start in Christopher Robin's room and in his imagination. They just can't let that magic disappear!

That is bad. Why get rid of Christopher Robin? He's been associated with Pooh & Co. since as long as I can remember. It makes absolutely no sense to me...

While I've been going to Disneyland since the 70's I wasn't nearly as fanatical as I am now. I get upset about the changes Disney does and feel they "sell out" a lot.

Boston, I'm curious. Is this something recent within the last 7-10 years or have you felt this way since the 50's and 60's. Like, did you feel Disney was being original and inventive with new attractions?

My feelings are kind of mixed on this.

Christopher Robin is the link to The Real World and Pooh is the fantasy side of it.
They should not be seperated as it would lessen the element that made Pooh what it is.

I'm not a big fan of CGI Animation. But in time it'll come full circle. It's only a matter of time.

Wow, I really hope they don't do this.. Dumbest thing ever.. Why would you ever want to change a classic character like that.

I mean Marvel and DC do it but they dont have the massive fan base that Pooh draws.

This sounds like PC gone amuck to me. If Pooh appeals more to girls, they think that they have to make the human character a girl. Why must they tamper with a classic?
