I'm very curious to see some reviews from moview goers. I'll be seeing it at the El Capitan soon, so I'll put a review of the Disney Digital 3D version. I hope it does well, though I miss the traditional Disney Feature Animation.

It looks like it will be a good one, and the 3D touch should be an interesting idea to watch and see how that draws in the crowds. And it being the first since they went to all-computer [and w/o Pixar] it'll be interesting to see how that aspect plays out as well...

I really have no interest in it...Ebert & Dumba** both said it was OK for kids, but not worth seeing otherwise. From a political standpoint, I think it's utterly moronic for Disney to abandon traditional animation ("Hey, there's this thing we are known for doing better than anyone else! Let's throw all that out the window and let Miyazaki take over for us!"), but the real reason I don't care about seeing it is that I'm not interested in the style.
You can tell from the ads that this is not an attempt to make something timeless like the classic animated movies that kids are still watching today (and adults everywhere can still hum the music to, 60 years later) or even more "recent" efforts like The Lion King.
It's this that Disney is known for, and it is so depressing that instead of trying to make something of terrific quality that stands on its own, they're going for this low-brow style.
I'd be more forgiving if they'd just done some quality "classic" stuff, and then this was a nice little bit of fluff breaking things up, but given their dismal track record, this looks like a pretty transparent effort to copy Pixar (and the inferior Shrek series), which shows that they just don't get it.
So, I am hoping that it bombs, although I'm afraid they might interpret that as "no one wants to see movies any more" and close up shop for good.

On the surface there is hunger and fear. Men still exercise unjust laws. They fight, tear one another to pieces. A mere few feet beneath the waves their reign ceases, their evil drowns. Here on the ocean floor is the only independence.

I saw it and it was pretty good. It's no Finding Nemo but it's still worth seeing. Take it for what it is. Won't win Oscars (well it might since competition is never that great) but it's a fun film that adults can enjoy.

Re: Chicken Little
The problem I see anyway is that most people presumed Pixar would be with Disney. But as it turned out they had problems with the last CEO, Michael Eisner. That partly has to do with it.bdinger wrote:Has anyone seen Chicken Little? If so, what did you think?
We saw it this weekend and thought it was a good, but not great, movie. A lot of critics have been giving it negative reviews, which I don't understand. A lot of the reviews make it sound like it's a terrible movie, which it's definately not.
So it wasn't up to Pixar standards, but I have to give them credit for at least trying something on their own with another CGI company. And that says as much for me since I'm not a big fan of CGI animation.

HEAR HEAR, Captain!
Disney has really started to become followers. It's because they lack vision now. They are scared to draw outside the lines. All they seem to care about is, "what's selling well now". I'm bitter now hearing about the POTC rehab to base it on the MOVIE! That's horrible.

We saw it this weekend. It was cute, but as Matt said, it's no Finding Nemo (or any other Pixar movie, for that matter).
I wonder what will happen now with Iger in the helm and the possibility of Disney and Pixar trying to open up talks again (or the rumor that they may be doing that). We'll see. If they wish to stay in the CGI genre, then they should break ground like, I feel, Nemo and the likes did. Chicken Little was, I thought, better than other CGI 'toons, but not the best.
And, as Captain Schnemo pointed out, the music didn't seem like something you could be humming in a week, let alone in 60 years!
I'll buy it for my kid when it comes to DVD, but I do wish that Disney would either go back to actually hand-drawing their cartoons (like Lilo was) or possibly mending ties with Pixar (or, BOTH, perhaps!!).

I've not so secretly hoped that this movie bombs. It upsets me greatly that Disney would abandon the genre they invented, the hand-drawn animated feature for CGI.
The Pixar films were good, but pixar could not have made some of the recent films that came out of the Disney studios. Abandoning 2-d animation IMHO is very very bad thing.
It wasn't the 3-D CGI that made the Pixar movies good, it was the stories they told. They were careful to choose things that would work well with CG like toys and bugs. But I don't think something with a strong graphic element like Mulan would work as a CG picture. I would not be oppossed to Disney making CG movies if they hadn't shut down the traditional 2-D process. If CG is the best way to tell the story go with that, but I think there are plenty of tales out there where traditional hand-drawn animation would better serve.

Very well put, ZenMondo! You're absolutely right. That's the difference you notice in a very amateur CGI movie (such as the Barbie "Swan Princess" movie) and, for example, Disney's original "Cinderella".
