I have been trying to find a way to let Disney runners see the training runs my wife and I do, and I think I have it. You can use this link:
http://connect.garmin.com/explore#activ ... rentPage=1
This should put "withspirit" in the search user field, and Birmingham, AL in the map view. Click on the Blue Title of the race (2010 Mercedes Half Marathon in Birmingham) and details and a map will pop up. This was the race we did on Valentine's Day this year. You dont need to register to look. If any of you use a Garmin Forerunner GPS you can upload your runs to this site (it's free) and we can see each others training there. If you try this, let me know how it works.

I have decided that's the stuff all runners seem to go through. My wife (see the earlier posts in this thread) has been going through a health challenge which has flared up just in time for the Princess Half Marathon. She will be there when you are (I can't get off work right now). She has been very inspiring to me, to see all she has gone through just to run a few races every year, not to mention years of training.
I just overheard her telling her son that running made her feel better and improved her mood (even with all her challenges!).
I think that is why we do this.

Good luck to her! I hope she's feeling better! My medicine does seem to not be as bad today, so maybe I'll be totally fine with it in a day or two. I hate going to the doctor and feeling worse than before I went.

My DW and I are now signed up for another Half-Marathon. We will be running on the Talladega Super Speedway! Here is a link for race info:

Now I can tell everyone I raced at Talladega

Other than the COLD weather it was great! I posted a couple of video links earlier in this thread, done by a professional, which gives a good overview of both races.
We Subsonic(ers) have at least a few runners and several cheering sections for the Disney races. We currently have two running threads, this one and another in the WDW resort section here

It went well! We walked it and enjoyed the characters since we didn't have the opportunity to really train for it since we kept passing sicknesses around. We enjoyed it and I took lots of pictures. I'll have to post them soon.

Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

Yea! I am glad you got to go and to finish! I am looking forward to the pictures (isn't it great to race AND take pictures at Disney).
As far as the sickness - I used to say my family never got well from any sickness, we just passed it around until we wore it out.

Yep, my husband caught it at work from a patient and brought it home to me, then when I got better, he caught it again from another patient, then I got sick from something else and that lasted until we went to Disney. It took up the whole month - month and a half between the time that we signed up for the race and we went.
It did feel good not to have trouble finishing it though. We started at a fast walking pace and were the very last people because you know how everyone starts out running. But we were able to hold our pace the whole time, so we passed a ton of people by the end. We would have passed even more if we hadn't stopped for some characters, but that was fun, so I didn't care. It did feel good to be passing people that were panting for breath at the end and we weren't even tired.
What was the funniest thing was the people that were walking slowly and dragging around until they saw a cm or character and then they started running as if they had been running the whole time. I was like "If you're back here with us, the people know you haven't been running. You're not fooling them."

During the Half this year, I saw a walker with a shirt that said "Why run when you can walk this fast?" And she was fast too!
My DW and I walk/run and we tend to pass the same people repeatedly, sort of like running leapfrog.
We did another practice run today (we have another Half-Marathon in two weeks

), We tried to run more, walk less, and I think I may have overdone it a bit

. I am a bit too sore for normal - maybe because I was lying on the floor while my wife took an shower, and went to sleep. I woke up very stiff and sore. Oh well, where is that Aleve bottle?

Lotsa stretching withspirit! Do you own a foam roller?! That has become my best friend over the years.

Painful but effective!
Little side note: did you know that chocolate milk is a fantastic recovery drink?!

You can google foam roller, but it's basically a big foam roll (just like the name) and you are able to roll knots out, it's very beneficial for staying injury free ie. you can roll your IT band out, hamstring, quads etc...! If you have any specialty running stores in your area, they should know about this. It's quite painful, but it's a good hurt!
And the chocolate milk is an excellent recovery drink for your muscles. I'll see if I can locate the article.

My brother competes in Ironmans and I always have to laugh when he uses his foam roller - it looks so innocent but it always sounds like it is trying to kill him when he uses it! I thought they were much softer until I made fun of him one time and he made me try it - definitely not fun! but great on your muscles

Wow, Ironmans, that is darn impressive! And yes, the foam roll is funny until you try out for yourself!
