My renewal was in 2010, so maybe the watch is a 2011 renewal gift? I'm not up for 2011-2012 renewal yet.

The watch came with the spring issue of the magazine. Since the club started March 10, 2009 the day one members would only just be renewing their memberships.

Is anyone planning on going to the D23 expo in Anaheim August 19-21?
(And no, you don't have to be a D23 member to attend....)

Nope, just a watch, no magazine.

Ok...DW and I are thinking about becoming 23.

What is the advantage of the Gold Membership over the Silver one? The only difference I can see online is the quarterly magazine. Since we live in the Southeast we can't really make it out to Anaheim for stuff there and we might not make it down to WDW until 2013! :(

Is the quarterly magazine worth the extra money? We would mainly be getting the membership for the exclusive merchandise benefits and DW loves scrapbooking so the Scrapblog benefits look good too. Anyway...just wanted to see what you other D23 folks thought. Thanks!

I don't live in a good area to take advantage of many of the D23 offerings either. Personally I don't think the D23 membership price is worth the exclusive merchandise since that merchandise tends to be on the expensive side. I believe you can find the magazine in some retail outlets, or at least that is what I have heard. So that might be a viable option for you, pick up an issue and see if you think it is worthwhile. I've said it before, I miss the old Disney magazine. I think it was much better than the current offering.

I have to admit, given the lousy service so far, I think I won't be renewing next time either...

I didn't even get the Spring 2011 magazine yet! Grrrr!

Yes, I already bought tickets to the Expo. :D
I'm hopeful to get tickets to Destination D when they go on sale tomorrow.

Thanks, MoonPet, for confirming I'm not alone in not getting the Spring magazine! I wonder who else out there has not received theirs?

I'm curious -- how many subsonic members are also D23 members? Also, which, if any, D23 events have you attended? I wonder if we were at any of the same events together?

I'll start...
MoonPet (Nicole) - charter year member (not first day though) - attended Expo 2009, Flowers & Fireworks 2010, Magic & Merriment 2010

MmeLeota & Chernabog40 - charter year members (not day one) - Expo 2009, 1st Anniversary party at DL, 50 and Fabulous film "Swiss Family Robinson" and Camp Rock 2 premiere (took our nieces).

...and Expo 2011 (got tix already)...can't wait to see who will be there this year and what will be offered for panels.

I agree that the magazine is cool, but not anything like the old Disney magazine... :( I like that D23 seems to be attempting to branch out to other locales this year. Even if they are smaller events, it's nice to see that they are listening to the feedback that I'm sure several members have given regarding the location of events (I know I've mentioned it to them on several occasions "even though we live a driveable distance away from DL, I know of several members who aren't within driving distance of any park") and I imagine it will only get better as they find their groove. March 10th will only be the second anniversary of the club...the folks at D23 are still getting the hang of things.

BIG, I hate to burst your bubble, but Scrapblog has now integrated with Mixbook and I don't think the Disney stuff was carried over. I am waiting to see if Mixbook and D23 will come up with some sort of agreement...perhaps they are working on it and will unveil at the expo...I hope..... (they unveiled the Scrapblog stuff there...) I'm not real familiar with Mixbook yet, but I miss Scrapblog. :(

Amy ~ charter year member, I have no idea if it was from Day 1 or not. Although I am a Day 1 member of the Disney Visa
Funny story, I was on vacation in St. John with my friends and I was elected to pay for the overpriced groceries since I was the only one with a credit card. The cashier studied and studied the card. She looked at me and said it was cute, I think I had the Finding Nemo design at the time. She studied it some more and then asked, "Is this true?" I was a bit confused and wondered what the heck she was asking. Then she said, "This says, member, Day 1. Are you really?" I was just glad there wasn't something wrong with the card and I laughed and said yes. She thought that was pretty neat. I guess that is rarer on a card than you might imagine. But as usual, I digress...

I have not been able to attend any D23 events :( ......yet.

And that's why I didn't renew. :( I loved the magazine but couldn't conscience spending all that money for it when part of the price is access to the events. If we ever live near enough to somewhere that we can attend a few events, then I'll be first in line to renew.
