After reading everyone's posts about what the Disney Stores are like, I'm glad ours closed 4 years ago. What's Disney going to do when this current crop of teeny-bopper talent (Hannah Montana, the HSM cast, etc.) grows up? After all, some of these kids are genuinely talented, even if Disney does use their talents for evil (I firmly believe that HSM is a violation of the Geneva Conventions). It won't be so easy to plug replacement teen phenoms. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney starts to see diminishing returns on their Disney Channel properties before too long.
I agree. You can only use the same equation (finding young teen talent and pumping millions of dollars to boost them to stardom) so many times. Disney, I believe, needs to find an everlasting group of characters like the fab 5 again.I wouldn't be surprised if Disney starts to see diminishing returns on their Disney Channel properties before too long.
And stop making sequel after sequel of their movies, not because they believe in the characters and really would like to tell a great story, but to basically pump every penny out of the characters or films. (pirates)

I hate what they've done to the Disney Stores. I don't mind them selling Hannah, HSM, etc. stuff at all. A lot of the youngens' like it, and I'm sure when I was little I liked things adults hated. But there's absolutely no need for this stuff to take over the whole danged store! All the stores near us closed, but when I was on vacation in August I went in one and was horrified. Very few stuffed animals, no snowglobes, no collectibles. Ugh.
When I was growing up, they sold the expensive stuff that I adored but couldn't afford on my own, like animation cells, fancy snowglobes, porcelain sculptures, etc.. Now that I can afford some of it, naturally they don't sell it anymore.

At the DTD in Anaheim there is the World of Disney store that I know still has many of these things, but these items seem to be slowly fading out. I don't believe that they will go away completely but there are definitely less of the animation cells and sculptures than there used to be.When I was growing up, they sold the expensive stuff that I adored but couldn't afford on my own, like animation cells, fancy snowglobes, porcelain sculptures, etc..

That's good to hear they still have some cels in CA. I had saved quite a bit before my trip to WDW earlier this year because I was going to buy myself an animation cel, finally. Imagine my disappointment when no store in any park or DTD had one, other than the Ink & Paint line created for Hollywood Studios. They had a couple sericels at DTD, but not anything I wanted. I remember back when they used to have a lot of actual animation cels. I was really disappointed. They'd even cut way back on their snowglobe offerings this year. There were only maybe 3 or 4 big ones, and I already had a couple of them.Josh Q wrote:At the DTD in Anaheim there is the World of Disney store that I know still has many of these things, but these items seem to be slowly fading out. I'm a Walt Disney Classics Collection collector myself, but no stores around me sell them. So, I have to buy on vacation or travel a few hours to get to a store that has them. I've bought a few on Ebay though, fairly cheap. I'm leery of buying an animation cel on Ebay, though.
Ya that kind of stuff on e-bay can be tricky sometimes. I sell collectables and autographed items, cell, etc and I rarely put anything on e-bay because there are so many knock offs of collectables it's hard sometimes to see whose legitimate and whose a con artist!.I'm leery of buying an animation cel on Ebay, though.

True. I'm even leery of certain art dealers who don't have any kind of Certificate of Authenticity from Disney for the pieces. There were some cartoon ones I had been interested in over the summer, but they had no COAs. So, the dealer offered to make one for me. Umm, that doesn't help. Not so much.Josh Q wrote:Ya that kind of stuff on e-bay can be tricky sometimes. Whereas with the WDCC pieces, it's kind of hard to make a fake of those.

Ya unless you are purchasing an item directly from Disney or the Dealer has some other way of proving the authenticity of the Item I would be very careful when purchasing. With most of my product (mostly autographed pieces) I have photos of the celebrity there autographing the exact piece being looked at for purchase. Also be very careful of certain groups that say they can “proveâ€True. I'm even leery of certain art dealers who don't have any kind of Certificate of Authenticity from Disney for the pieces. I just got the latest issue of Disney Insider newsletter and it has a link to this page which basically says they are adding a new line/edition of cels to the Ink and Paint line on December 13.

I'm sure I agree with the majority here....but it almost makes my stomach sick just to walk in the Disney Store nowadays. I live just outside Lexington, KY and was fortunate enough to have our store remain open. Now, if they would just dump Hannah Montana, the Jonas Bros and the Power Rangers (which I still don't get why they're even in the Disney Store) and bring back classic Disney, then I would be one happy camper!!

because they are owned by Disney. They bought the rights several years ago. That's why you can find the Power Rangers at WDWdiscomouse131 wrote:Now, if they would just dump Hannah Montana, the Jonas Bros and the Power Rangers (which I still don't get why they're even in the Disney Store)
