rdeacon, my husband and I also discussed that particular plot point and the severe letdown of it. Could be totally wrong, but I think that could be used in a fourth film if they make one ($ which I think they will $ ). Otherwise it was a complete and utter waste of time.

I agree about the plot points of sequels, overall. Dead Man's Chest was all over the place to me. There were like 80-million stories going on, and even if it was easy enough to follow them, they didn't seem to connect and flow together very well. The first film was epic, yet simple. And that is what made it so good. I view Dead Man's Chest now like I did the first couple of prequels in the Star Wars trilogy...they set it all up for Revenge of the Sith just as the second Pirates film set up At World's End. At World's End still had some flow issues, but I thought it much better put together than its predecessor.

I would agree. Just strange that sequels all fall into the same trap. They have to keep getting bigger and bigger, and loose focus on the fact that the plot is what makes the movie, not just special effects.

I am looking forward to seeing At World's End again... so that is a plus. I think Star Wars is a good example of how to do sequels. Well it does help that Lucas envisioned them before hand, but he didn't get sucked in to the have to have more and more with each of them. He kept it the plots clean and worked the special effects around the plots.

I think that the first Star Wars trilogy was great and it did show how to do sequels. The prequel trilogy I think was a bit of a bust. I have so many questions that will never be answered because of mistakes in continuity between the trilogies.

Back to the Future is another great example, I think. Though some would argue that II wasn't great, I really liked it. I liken Pirates to be like BTF, where it's sort of one story being played out between 3 films. But I think BTF does a better job at it.

personally i think it needed more scene's with Keira Knightly in it. (insert sarcasm) she's pretty but built like a boy. too bad.

i've noticed so far all the 3's seem to be missing something. Spiderman, Shrek and Pirates. just lacking something not quite sure what..

My wife and I saw the movie last night, and we both left the theater not really sure what to make of the third movie. The effects were very good, and there were a few funny parts. But we both felt it was very busy and a bit disjointed. I think i liked it, but not sure. We spent friday night and saturday night watching the first two on blu-ray to get ready for the third hoping that we would have everything fresh in our minds and not miss anything. Not sure if it worked.

P.S. if anyone missed the scene after the credits, it on youtube. My wife just found it and showed me.

We liked it but I agree that too much was not explained. I also thought that the gags in this were alittle too much. Like they were really trying to make you laugh unstead of using subtle humor.
Thanks for the youtube hint. Going to check it out!
Have a magical day!

I was really reluctant at the thought of seeing it, but when I got the chance I jumped on it. Weird.

At times it felt like I was watching a raw foreign film. There was talking and action, but I wasn't just able to connect the dots, or would forget things that just happened.

After a while, I just said, "enjoy the film; get a headache at trying to put the story together after it ends".

I do give it points for good music, action and humor and eye candy- which should be expected. Also major points for numerous and one direct sample from the attraction.

Now I can't get "hoist the colours" outta my head.

I dunno about the next film though. I was ready for this series to just be a trilogy.

I'm not sure if they actually plan on making a fourth film. Although it seems with the way the movie ended, hopefully not spoiling anything, they left an out it any of the characters did not want a part of another movie. I was talking about that exact point with a friend at work and he was looking at it the same way. i could see them going at two disticnt possible directions if they wanted to make another movie. But I, as well, am hoping they leave it at a trilogy.

I can see a fourth movie being made, but missing a character or two.

I have yet to see it. PotC 3 has gotten mixed reviews, so I'm not sure if it is worth my time. I'll probably end up renting it.

There are rumors they are deffenitely doing a fourth. Bruckheimer has bought rights for a 4th story. Nothing else is set.

I also have to say I saw it again the other day, and the 2nd time around was better. It seemed to have better pacing and the plot less messy.

I wonder do you think that's just because you already know the pot outlined? Or did you actually notice and pick up certain things the second time around that you may have not seen the first sit through?

I liked Dead Man's Chest much better after I saw it a second time. I think it's because I knew what to expect. I knew the plot, and I wasn't going to be shocked by anything in the movie. I could then sit and watch it and take it all in.

I'm hoping to return for a second viewing of At World's End next week for the same result.

Well, I went and saw it and it wasn't all that bad. Just a bit strange. Not trying to reveal too much, but the scenes with Jack Sparrow talking to himself reminded me of another Johnny Depp movie... (Anyone know what I'm thinking of? ) I thought that was weird. Also, some of the lines I recognized from the attraction were said, mainly by Barbarossa. The scene that appears at the end credits was okay. Overall, a good movie.

I saw it this afternoon and at the moment, I have mixed feelings on it. Some parts were really amazing but then others left me thinking "what the heck was that?" I plan to give it another go and see if my opinion changes, but right now it may just be my least favorite of the series.
I sat through the first half of the film going, "HUH?"

It was entertaining. Barbossa rules and Sparrow was amusing as ever. :) What was going on? Most of the time, I had no clue. But they were fun, the scenery was pretty and the score, as usual, was great.
