what is the DUMBEST ride at any Disney park????

Movies, TV, music, and more. Here's the place to talk about anything Disney outside of the parks.

At least the camel spits at you on The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. TriceraTop Spin at Disney's Animal Kingdom doesn't even have THAT going for it. I think TriceraTop Spin should be near the top of the list...

Are we limiting this post to "riding" attractions, or could Sounds Dangerous starring Drew Carey be included? Though the audio effects are neat, the show is terrible. Another attraction meriting a spot on the list should be The Making of Me at Wonders of Life. In fact, let's just include the whole pavilion, except for Cranium Command, because Buzzy's the man!

kgmadorin -

I forgot about TriceraTop Spin at AK. You're right, it is worse than the spitting camel ride @ MK. :D

Drew Carry's Sounds Dangerous was just ok. We tried it once - we were really tired and really hot, and actually took a snooze. Maybe that's why I didn't think it was so bad

You're absolutely right! It's a great place to grab a few zzzz's on a hot day. Just refrain from wearing the headphones and it's perfect... dark, quiet, cool...

If the Imagineers were trying to design the ultimate "nap time" attraction, I don't think they could do much better than Sounds Dangerous!

according to a Guidemap I have from 1999, it was a Character Greeting location.

js3901 is right: Part of the space was used for meet & greets, usually with the Jungle Book characters. The rest of it was an open area containing seating for enjoying frozen treats from Sunshine Tree Terrace. It had some nice planters and tables and chairs with bright umbrellas.

The space is shaped differently than it once was, because when they began construction on the new attraction, they had to widen the walkway in front of the ramp leading down to Jungle Cruise because of emergency regulations. If you visit Adventureland at WDW today, you'll notice a large "boardwalk" type area around the corner from the Swiss Family Treehouse entrance. This was built to maintain the minimum road width required by Reedy Creek in case an ambulance or fire truck had to enter the area.

Though I don't like the Magic Carpets, I do admire the Disney execs for launching a brand new attraction in a space previously unutilized. That mentality seems much more in line with what Walt would appreciate. Also, it's important to keep in mind that the Magic Carpets were built for several reasons: 1.) There hadn't been a new attraction in Adventureland since Pirates of the Caribbean opened in 1973. 2.) Families with smaller children weren't spending as much time on the west side of the park as on the east. 3.) The line for Dumbo almost always stretches out of the queue. By building a similar attraction elsewhere in the park, the long waits might be alleviated. Before green-lighting Magic Carpets, the idea of building an identical Dumbo right next to the existing one in Fantasyland was even strongly considered.

Anyway, the ride is still terrible. But I stick by my guns: TriceraTop Spin at DAK is even worse!

Alladdin's Carpet ride seems to be a bit out place in Adventureland. :?

I absolutely agree... The Magic Carpets don't fit with the theming of Adventureland, which seems to be a conglomeration of Asia, South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the South Pacific.

But the Imagineers must have considered that and changed the area surrounding the attraction into an "Agrabah" Middle Eastern type market. Though I'm no fan of the Carpets, I have to admit they did a pretty slick job on the transformation of that part of Adventureland. Nevertheless, for a purtist like me, it still seems out of place.

Your right, maybe with a different color scheme Alladdin would blend better. :?

I was never that impressed with Mission to Mars. All it really did for me was make me have to go to the bathroom immediately afterward. That's one attraction I won't miss.

All the duplications of dumbo. WDW has 4 of them, and they are all basically the same exact ride. Unlike the Movie rides (Pilharmagic, Tough to be a Bug, Muppets 3d, Honey I shrunk) which all have decent variance and theme changes (maybe except shrunk) they have something different to offer. The others are just a variation of the carousel.

Its beyond me that executives thought 3 of the same ride was a good idea for one park.

Mission to mars was also pretty bad. Especially when the seat you had didn't even bother to deflate.

The phantom boats were pretty bad as well. I assume these were either for the very young, or the older kids wanting a little privacy.

The Astro Orbitor has its fans. When I was hosting groups at WDW, a lot of people wouldn't even ride it because of how high it is off the ground. And although I'm definitely not a fan of the "Dumbo" style attractions (see my previous posts), the queues are always filled.

Phantom Boats? I know a lot about Walt Disney World history and I don't know of an attraction by this name... could it have been called something else? I know that the Phantom Boats had a short stint at Disneyland in 1955...

I consider the Rocket Jets that are set up high much different than dumbo. That's what made it cool. I hate Disneyland's Tomorrowland low Astro orbitor!
