Nice! I like the little shelves ~ those will be very handy! Very nice touch with the decorative edges too

I would accuse you of taking advantage of Mouseoholic's absence, but I know she was there when you were first crafting Mickey inside the house...

It's like we're getting down to the final chapters of a book and we're wanting to read the rest of it so we can see how it ends, but we can't - M-dude hasn't written them yet...

Mousekedude Builds a Shadowbox... Episode 13: We're almost there!!
Howdy, Mousecrafting fans!!! Best hold on to them hats and glasses, cuz this here's gonna be the wildest post in the series!!!
Well, let me explain: I'm about 90% done! In this post I'll get everything done except the lighting. The lighting is going to be a pretty-big deal, but aside from that, everything else will be done on the shadowbox, and if it weren't for the lighting I'd actually be done! So let's get into it. We start with the shelves and cleats... I need to make the "alignment holes" for the shelves to fit up with the cleats, and then drill the pilot holes for the screws that will bind the shelves and the insert to the body of the shadowbox.

That part having been done, I can now paint the shelves

Now while the paint on the shelves dries, I'll cut the foamboard to the shape of the insert...

The insert is now ready to be fitted into the body of the shadowbox...

Now that the insert is fitted into place, it's time to mark and cut out the locations of the shelf cleats, install them, and drill the holes through the cleats and the insert for the mounting screws..

The next step is to lay out the velvet fabric and get it ready to cover the insert. I have to stretch it out carefully, weight it down, and tape it to the table so that when I'm ready to glue the insert to it, the fabric will be completely flat and smooth...

Okay... the fabric is ready, so now I have to spray the adhesive onto it and the foam insert, and then adhese the insert to the fabric. The adhesive dries quickly, so I have to work fast!

Whew... got it done!! Now it's time to trim the fabric and staple it to the back of the insert.

Alright, we're making good progress!!
The insert is ready to install, so I now have to drill some holes in the back of the shadowbox for the installation screws, including the ones that will go all the way through to the shelves...

We're really rockin' now... can you feel the anticipation building...?
Now it's time to install the insert!

...and to cap it all off, I now install the shelves...

Well, there you have it, Mousecrafting Fans!! A completed shadowbox!!

Oh wait... there's a reason that I said in the beginning of this post that I was about 90% done... I still have to install the lights!
But fear not, faithful Mousecrafters... the lights will be coming soon! And I'm proud to say that aside from that part of it, the shadowbox is done!!!! Woo-hooo!!!

WOW! That is looking sweet M-dude ~ and I can't wait to see it with pretty, twinkling, sparkly lights!!
Ahem, I do have to wonder if M-oholic would be okay with the power tool usage in the house? Glue...maybe, but drills?!
Ahhh, she probably will be so happy with her new shadowbox that she won't notice the new holes in the dining room table

Suuuuuure there aren't....that's the real reason you had that fabric stretched out wasn't it?
