Lord knows we've suffered enough this year.....

We talked about it last night and decided we're going to shoot for another trip possibly in January around the time of the marathons. The Boilers are already signed up for several of those runs, so we're leaning toward that time for a reunion.

Of course, this is off topic, so let me also say that I might have some time in the next week or so to get back to work on my Mickey shadowbox! Here's hoping!

I am catching up on this thread and wanted to say love your pin collection as well as the Disney Room with all of your cool stuff! I did something similar but did not think to use cork board. Hmmmmmm where is Mousekedude when you need him?

calling Mousekedude...."oh sweetie, where are you? I have a new project for you!" LOL

I'm thinking M-dude might balk at putting pins in cork board ~ no opportunity for him to go to Man Depot for that project

LOL, well... it's true that I'll take any excuse I can come up with to go to the Man Zone Toy Store... but in reality I was considering using cork board as the backer for my shadowbox. It would be covered with black velvet, of course, but still...
But since I'm not at that stage yet, I haven't fully investigated the possiblilites. I may use a high-density foam board instead... or maybe even a fiber board material... it all depends. Partly on feasiblity, and partly on cost. I have a feeling the cork will be rather expensive... and less reliable. But like I said, I have to get to that point first and fully investigate all the possibilities.

And we are waiting more or less patiently for the next update in the process! I would think cork would be quite costly as well....

I'm impressed on how he has researched the various possibilities for the backing...

Mousekedude Builds a Shadowbox... Episode 10: Getting ready to paint!

Greetings, Mousecrafting Fans! First, I want to say thanks to Amy for the comment about "an eye for detail." That leads nicely right into this episode. :D

Okay, here's the deal: As mentioned in my last post on the subject, I had to sand the first coat of primer and apply spackling to the imperfections that showed up. The next step would be sanding the spackling after it cured, and then applying a final coat of primer in preparation for paint. This is necessary in order for the "fine details" to look good.
Well, I had promised that I would work on this while Mouseoholic was in Australia, so... guess what! She's there! So today I dragged out the shadowbox, wiped off the dust, finished sanding the spackling and first coat of primer, and applied the final coat of primer! Woo hoo... here it is, ready for paint!

Image

After the primer dries I'll fine-sand it again to make it smooth as glass, then apply the paint. Stay tuned, fellow Mousecrafters!
