I'm actually excited about this movie. I don't know when I can see it though.

I think this will be an interesting movie. The sets and costumes look like they have such depth and rich details. It will probably be like any other movie that looks good though - I'll wait and get it on DVD. Sticky-icky movie theater seats and floors with screaming infants and children running up and down the aisles do not add anything to the movie experience for me.

I've been hearing a number of rumors that Disney's wanting to have a short release for Alice in Wonderland so that they can put it on DVD faster. A number of theaters don't want to show the movie in their theaters and I've heard that quite a number overseas isn't showing the movie at all. I hope that this isn't the case.

^I've heard that as well - a big push from Bob Iger (he eventually wants to release the movie in theatres and DVD on the same day - talk about a bust for the big screen). Good for the theatres to boycott, but I'd be sad if I didn't have Alice playing near me!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

I can't say that I disagree with releasing lesser movies on DVD the same time, but not a major release like Alice. Of course this will do nothing to help reduce the cost of movies, theaters will use this as an excuse to increase their rates even further making it impossible for most people to see a movie.
It's really sad when it costs more for a family of four to see a movie than to fill the gas tank on their car.

I can't see the theaters being happy with a "short run" - the studio gets all the money upfront when a movie is released, and the theatres get their money out of it as it engagement continues - more time, the more of the money. Shorter runs cuts into the theatre profits unless the studio is agreeing to take a cut upfront - I can't see any studio doing that. To do this would put the studios and the theaters into an unfriendly conflict.
