I thought it was fun! As I said in another post it was alittle long. I felt the plot was well done. They left quite a few question to be answered, including the connection between the East India Company and Davey Jones. Davey Jones was alittle two dimensional, but most movie bad guys are. This wasn't a Pacino movie! I wasn't looking for an indepth character development. I wanted a thrill ride and PoC Dead Mans Chest delivered just that.Am i the only one who wasn't all that impressed with the movie.

No you weren't the only one. I was generally diappointed as well. There were scenes that just felt useless and the plot was so-so. I don't think I would see it again. Neat action scenes though.jrcohen wrote:Am i the only one who wasn't all that impressed with the movie. It seemed very lacking in plot, and I thought the ending was very weak. I know it's only the second movie in a trilogy, but usually something that happens in the second movie will be summed up. We know that Chow-yun Fat is going to be the "bad guy" in the next movie, what is going to happen to Davey Jones? If he was going to stay around for multiple movies, i would have thought his character would have been explored a bit more.

Just wondering, what was the disappointment? Was it all the pre-release hype? I have a friend who felt that PoC Dead Man's Chest just couldn't live up to all the hype!No you weren't the only one. I was pretty disappointed overall. It was stunning visually, but my biggest beef was the amount of violence. Not just skeletons and swordfights in this one. I was very upset I didn't see it first before taking my kids who were freaked out by the execution style killings that Jones' crew partake in.jrcohen wrote:Am i the only one who wasn't all that impressed with the movie. Doubt we'll get it on DVD even - it was a total bust for me.

I tottaly understand, my DS2 are 13 and 12, so it was nothing to them. I can see how this would be a problem. I didn't look at it from that point of view, It was a more ADULT, TWEENER, TEEN Disney movie. I can see how some of what went on in the movie would be upseting to younger kids!I was pretty disappointed overall. It was stunning visually, but my biggest beef was the amount of violence. Not just skeletons and swordfights in this one. I was very upset I didn't see it first before taking my kids who were freaked out by the execution style killings that Jones' crew partake in.

CNN is reporting that:
'Pirates' sequel sails toward box office record
Estimate for 'Dead Man's Chest' opening: $132 million
Monday, July 10, 2006; Posted: 12:53 a.m. EDT (04:53 GMT)
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Johnny Depp's boozy, woozy buccaneer Jack Sparrow has plundered the box office, with "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" taking in a record $132 million in its first three days, according to studio estimates Sunday.
Disney's swashbuckling sequel sailed past the previous all-time best debut, 2002's "Spider-Man," which took in $114.8 million in its first weekend.
"Dead Man's Chest" also did nearly three times the business of its predecessor, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," which took in $46.6 million over opening weekend in 2003.
The sequel surpassed that total in its first day alone, taking in $55.5 million Friday to beat the previous single-day record of $50 million, set last year by "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith." With $44.7 million on Saturday, "Dead Man's Chest" also became the first movie to top $100 million in just two days.
Despite sky-high projections for the "Pirates" sequel from industry analysts, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said he had expected "Dead Man's Chest" to open closer to the $77 million debut weekend of spring's "The Da Vinci Code."

Box office records broken by POTC:DMC
Single Day Gross - $55.5 million
3 Day Gross- $132 million
Fastest to $100 million - 2 days
Superman Returns vs. POTC:DMC
Supe gross: $141.7 million over 12 days
Pirates gross: $132 million over 3 days
And I wonder which one will earn more. Hmm...
The stats above are from www.boxofficemojo.com. Personally, I thought DMC was great for being the second part of a trilogy. I find that usually the worst of a trilogy is the second movie (i.e. Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings). Not that these movies are inherently bad, but just not as good as the first and third ones. I am eagerly awaiting the third POTC!

Harry Potter isn't a trilogy its a 7 part series. Also, Temple of Doom is my favorite of the Indiana Jones movies (in part becuase I think it holds true to what Speilburg and Lucas were going for: a campy 20-30's serial). Also, some of the GREATS have been second parts of a trilogy.. Back to the Future 2? AWESOME! Aliens? AWESOME! Empire Strikes Back? SUPER AWESOME!
Dare I go on?
I loved DMC. It was great action, great fun, and who really cares about the plot when Jack Sparrow and his band of pirates are fighting Davy Jones?

I can't wait for the third movie.

That pretty much sums up exaclty how I felt about it. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first movie, and will definatly see the third. But I d expect plot and some character development in good movies, and I just didn't see much of either in DMC. It would have been nice to see a bit new from the three major characters.Lion Sleeps Tonight wrote:No you weren't the only one. I was generally diappointed as well. Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

Looks like the estimates were a little low. It just keeps getting better.

The 2nd Movie in LOTR (Lord of the rings.. to the uninitiated) WAS THE BEST! Be still my beating heart! That had the BEST fight scenes in it! I mean... how can you beat the battle at Helm's deep!?!?!?!?!??!!?!?!?
Yes I am a true Disney fan... But I also believe that LOTR is the "Star Wars" for the 2000's as far as epic saga goes....
Alas......

You're not the only one. My friend hasn't seen any LOTR movies. So at least there's two of you. Go watch it!!
Well Pirates isn't for everyone. I've heard mixed reviews. My ex-roommate just saw it, and loved it. She said it was a lot of fun.
