Are you 23?

Movies, TV, music, and more. Here's the place to talk about anything Disney outside of the parks.

I know of at least 1 other member out there...

What do you think so far? Did you get your new magazine?

Mouseoholic (my wife) and I both joined. We've received two magazines so far, as well as all our special gifts and so forth. We're satisfied overall. The magazines have a lot of good inside information. For example, there is a very detailed article about the making of the new movie, The Princess and the Frog. It was fascinating and very informative. I'm really impressed with the magazine.
We got some really cool stuff, too. In fact, I got a t-shirt that says "Are you 23?" on the front, and on the back it has the D23 logo showing it's the official fan club. I wore it to a restaurant, and it drew attention. A waitress read the front and asked, "I'm 23, so what does that mean?" It was cool to talk about the exclusive club. We got D23 decals to put on our car windows too, so we're hoping someone in traffic will see them and say, "hey, I'm 23 too!"
Anyway, on the one hand we're a little miffed at Disney for coming up with yet another money-making scheme to take advantage of our Disney addictions, but on the other hand, the stuff and events are pretty darn cool, and it feels good to belong to something exclusive and special.
There is a really interesting thread on this topic over at Studioscentral.com if anyone is interested in checking it out.

Yeah, we've gotten 2 magazines too and so far we love them! They are such high quality and beautifully put together. I agree about the whole money making thing...especially since you still have to spend money to get to do most of the events and get the merchandise. But on the other hand, I agree with you on the quality of stuff and events. We were lucky enough to get tickets to go to the Walt Disney Family museum preview, and we flew to San Francisco for the day...an expensive day trip, but well worth it. (I surprised DH with the trip...he didn't know until the night before we left. It was an early anniversary present)

I think it's better if you live in the areas of the parks. I noticed that all of the events in the LA area (except the candelight processional event) are sold out. It's nice to see that there are events elsewhere too. If we were closer to WDW, we would have loved to do the Magic & Merriment event. I know the price was a little steep, but if you add in everything you get, it's well worth it for 2 days.

Thanks for the tip on the other site with info...sorry about mentioning another site...micechat also has a lot of D23 members. I went there before the expo because so many people were talking about it, and there wasn't much going on here.

Unfortunately, living in Houston puts us about halfway between DLR and WDW; not convenient to either one. So our ability to pop in on events is very limited. We are looking forward to doing some, though.
I'm going to be wearing my D23 t-shirt on at least one day of our upcoming trip to WDW, and my wife will be carrying her D23 tote bag, so we'll see if any fellow D23-ers stop us to say hi.

Hey mousekecouple! Did you guys go to the Magic and Merriment event that took place while you guys were there? I wanted to go so badly, but it cost too much to fly out there and hubby couldn't get the time off from work. :(

No, unfortunately it conflicted with some other stuff we had already booked, and in fact, I'm not sure if we even knew about it in time. There were several events we did, and several others we looked at but couldn't do, but I'm not sure which was which. My DW is the one who did all the planning and booking, so I'm sure she knows more about it. I'll tell her to weigh in on this thread when she gets a chance.

MmeLeota,

I did consider this but it was just too expensive + we already had planned to attend another event put on by the Dis-unplugged Podcast that evening. It was already paid for and not anywhere near as expensive as the D23 event. I thought it was a shame how they posted the event so late knowing that most travelers to WDW book trips 6 months + in advance. It could be because space was limited or they were trying to boost park attendance. I am told that it was much busier than in past years so it must have worked.

Bummer...if it wasn't so darn expensive to fly there it actually was a really good deal. Especially when you consider that the DL event for the candelight processional cost $275 per person and it was only a one day event with nowhere near the amount of things happening.

BUT....you guys got to do some really awesome stuff on your trip! :)

So far the only D23 event we've gone to was the preview of the Walt Disney Family museum. We're hoping to do more in the upcoming year.

Welcome to the club double boiler! Supposedly they're going to be announcing the new events soon. We're hoping to get in on at least one of them.

Alright! Welcome! Did you get him anything else from the catalogue? When we joined, I got the black "Are You 23?" t-shirt, and Amber got the red tote bag and the vintage-looking "D23 Charter Member" pin with mickey and an old airplane.
Hey, also, when you get your poster, let us know which one you got!

We get a catalog?! I went online and ordered his membership that way! I'm sure we'll have to purchase something fun! Since it was before Dec. 31 he's still a "charter" member.

I'll let you know which poster we get, we're excited!

Thanks for the welcome Mmleota and M-dude! 8-) We're official now!

Actually, it's all online. Just go on the Disney Store's site like you did to order the membership, and you'll see a mess of stuff that states you must have a membership ID # to purchase.

We bought a couple of things at the expo...but procrastination has gotten the best of me and I guess I'd better order a charter year pin before it's too late!
