Has anybody seen anything else on this lately? It seems to have died out, as far as news goes. I sure would like to know if there has been a popular uprising vis-a-vis letters to the powers that be, demanding that they don't change Mickey. I wonder if any of that has been happening?

Oh, they listen, alright. Now, whether or not they actually DO anything we want is another story. It's all about the bottom line. Hate to be cynical, but..... :?

I agree with the line in the original article that asks if you can describe Mickey's personality. He hasn't had one for years.

I can't say as I've ever cared about Mickey as a character, but Donald's cartoons are still hilarious and endearing.

Donald, Goofy, and even Pluto have pretty distinct personalities, but Mickey is as bland as they come. It reminds me of the way they market the theme parks as this general schmear of "magic" instead of trying to give them any actual identity.

I'm worried that they'll put more focus on making Mickey trendy as opposed to giving him an actual personality. I don't want to see Bratz Mickey, who is comfortable telling his parents "whatever" and rolling his eyes. That kind of "edge" would make me puke. But if he picks up a little of the anti-establishment edge of a Seussian character...someone who thinks for himself is more than a lily white corporate mascot, I might enjoy that.

Maybe.

As long as they make him smart and not just a smart ass, there's potential.

Despite his celebration of tradition, Walt was always a bit subversive himself. Although he, like Dr. Seuss, might deny it.

Anyway, Mickey gets reworked all the time, so it's not really a big deal. Anyone remember him in Miami Vice attire from the 80s?

It happens.

I couldn't agree more. My feelings exactly.

Dude, Mickey's been towin' the company line for decades. He's basically corporately "whipped". I bet he still finds himself saying "Yes sir, Mr. Eisner" and then giggling afterwards. Don't expect too much free-will and independent thinking from the mouse.
