Disney Store

Movies, TV, music, and more. Here's the place to talk about anything Disney outside of the parks.

Welcome to the board Cougar Craig and MickeyEars. Perhaps it's simply that Disney realized, like with it's parks, people don't want cheap stuff.
Maybe they felt people could only afford the cheap stuff after paying the food and hotel costs they want. ;)

Great to hear that new better things are comming soon. I will have to find one I can go to again. :)

Regarding being a division of Children's Place; if it wasn't for them stepping forward, there most likely wouldn't be a Disney Store. It would appear that the Disney Company was keeping things on the cheap at the end of their tenure.

Come to think about it, when I have been going to the Parks recently looking to purchase quality collectibles, there haven't been the products that I thought were of enough value to purchase (even with my Cast Member Discount). Now that's disappointing.

So, it takes awhile for our purchasing department to realign, have product designed, place the orders, and get the new merchandise manufactured, shipped from the manufacturer, clear customs, shipped to the Distribution Centers, placed into inventory and then shipped to your local Disney Store.
Its sad to hear that Disney dropped the ball on this. I'll give the Disney Store another look in a while and I hope I will be pleasantly surprised.

As for the collectibles I think Disney is pushing them in their Disney Direct Catalog. The catalog has a nice selection of merchandise... although it is alittle light in the adult apparel section. The theme parks are still the best spot for clothes.

I loved going to the Disney Stores to see the animatronic displays, it made me feel like I was sorta at DL.

We can just call it user error, cause when I do hit the quote button it puts it in my reply box with the brackets around it and everything, so I am just not smart enough to make it look like everyone elses in their replies  Sorry

Thank you for the warm welcome =o)
I have been with the Disney Stores for almost nine years - through the ups and downs and I feel optimistic that the new owners understand the "Magic" concept and are trying to bring it back into the stores.
Like Cougar Craig, there are many of us CMs still around at the stores to help keep the magic alive.

I am very happy to hear the news of the new merchandice. When I walked into that store a few weeks ago I was just appalled by the amount of stuffed animals and toys were around. The only thing for adults was maybe a coffee mug. Again very glad to hear about the change. Hopefully when I go into one again the merchandice will be more adult friendly. :D

Disney store

I've also been disappointed with the merchandise lately. I used to never leave there empty-handed! The last 3 times I've visited I've done just that. I used to work there, too. I hear the employees lost almost all of their Disney "perks" when they changed hands. I'm sure that's why most of the employees were there in the first place! There was a serious lack of cast members my last visit there--that's a real bummer :(

When you mentioned the employee perks it got me thinking about customer perks as well. Would we still be able to buy tickets, disney dollars, and other things there after the transfer?

when are all the changes going to be in effect? I was just in our local Disney Store and most everything was kid oriented still. The only things adult related were some coffee mugs, some snow-globes, and a table of t-shirts (that coincidentally were all on clearance to clear out stock).

Hi, and again, thank you for the very warm welcome.
Cougar Craig is at Walt Disney World right now (lucky guy) but I know he would thank you too.

I haven't seen any of the merchandise yet, but...we are going to be getting in some Adult t's with Muppet charactors on them and...we just got three new Adult watches - Tinkerbell, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse - keep the adult stuff coming - YAY

We still sell Disney $'s and Park Passes. We no longer carry the Disney catalog. We still have DVD pre-sales with lithographs - the majority of guests do not even know that the stores were bought out. It looks like business as usual.

As far as us CMs go, we did lose a good deal of our perks. We do get a discount (30%) at the Disney Stores and Children's Place, but...we lost our merchandise discount at the Parks, including food discount and discount at the hotels. We receive 3 complimentary passes (down from 4) a year.

I fondly remember back about 10 years ago when we had a Disney Store in Arkansas, I would drive the 60 miles about once a month just to go that 1 store. It was quite magical then, now I have nothing but the internet and my memories.

What happened? Did they close it, or do you just not go due to the changes? But if the new disney store flops I hope they bring a world of disney store to San Francisco so I can do the 60 mile shopping trip.
