HM was horrible even without something to compare it to. I guess Disney thought that Eddie Murphy would carry the movie, but even Disney can be wrong sometimes.

I don't think HM was horrible. It was mildly entertaining, but not something I would spend more money on (I saw it once in the theater) or recommend to anyone.

HM = very very bad

Pirates = very very good

...as evidenced by HM having no sequel and Pirates having 2.

I agree with everyone. I also saw Haunted Mansion on ABC. The acting wasn't very good. The plot wasn't delivered well. Some moments could have been pretty creepy, but the movie lost it when it tried to become funny.

Yes Pirates of the Caribbean couldn't be any better, those 3 movies are the best which I've ever seen!

But Haunted Mansion could be a lot better, the story could be a lot better, acting also and the music... :?
I expected more of it.

HM needed to be less comical and more serious to be taken seriously. As for Pirates the first one was the best in my opinion followed by the second and the third. The third movie just felt over the top for me, too much CG and the story was so far out there that it wasn't as enjoyable as the first one, you had to follow every little thing. The first movie you could walk away for 10 minutes and comeback and still know what was going on. Dead man chest was just too busy.

Pirates hands down! HM was too hokey for me. Pirates (the first one) is witty and scary enough but not too scary with a great storyline. My entire family loves it. I did not care as much for the other two and of course my children (ages 7 & 4) have not seen them but nothing can top the first one in my opinion!

No Contest with this one. The ENTIRE Pirate trilogy was excellent. Obviously the folks at Disney feels the same. I don't see Eddie Murphy appearing in the HM in WDW or DL...

There definately is no comparison, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are soooooo much better than the Haunted Mansion movie. Don't get me wrong, the ride is great, i just didnt think the movie really seemed to have much to do with the ride, whereas the Pirates movies had more to do with the ride and there are some scenes that they created that were on the ride. I also believe that Johnny Depp did a wonderful job as Captain Jack Sparrow in the movies. They even changed the ride so it would have Captain Jack in it. Spaulo is definately right, pirates is far more superior!! Ahoy Mateys!!! Go Pirates!!

I agree with the rest of the responses here - Pirates is definitely better than HM.

Although, HM was not a total let down. I found myself having quite a bit of fun pointing out all the easter eggs and little nods to the attraction. The graveyard scene was just full of great references. But in terms of story development, it was definitely lacking.
