You suddenly have $1.5 billion dollars to spend....

Movies, TV, music, and more. Here's the place to talk about anything Disney outside of the parks.

Captain Schnemo, you bring up some really good points here with the shuffling of the rides and the maintenance. But what do you mean by
restore all the best aspect of the parks which have slowly degraded over time.
?
do you mean the themeing, costuming, etc.

After reading your post I'm starting to lean heavier on your side. I would bring back the themed trash cans in the Lands.

The Villains idea doesn't appeal much to me either. I'd really like to see something completely different from the 4 existing parks. I've got no idea what it could be. But I know that Imagineering could come up with something.

Well, yeah, there are all those little things and the maintenance issues, but I'm mostly concerned with the big picture.

To take just one of the things I've harped on repeatedly, Test Track sucks. I mean, it might be a fun ride with interesting ride technology, but the theme is incredibly lame.

But you can see how it happened, and it's that kind of creeping sucktitude that's the problem. World of Motion needed an update. The thinking at the time was that people were tired of robots (which I don't believe, but whatever) and polling told them people wanted thrill rides (again, I think this analysis is completely bogus, but that's a whole different rant). So, they said "Hey, this place used to be about transportation...CARS ARE TRANSPORTATION! And it's sponsored by GM...GM TESTS CARS!".

Of course, if they'd ran the idea past anyone over six years old, they'd have discovered that 1) cars going 60mph is something that we experience every day and 2) fossil fuel-based cars are not the slightest bit futuristic, and the joint is called Future World.

Now, if you're not thinking too hard about it and you see World of Motion has been replaced with cars that go fast, you might think "Cool, that sounds fun. And it's cars, so it make sense.". Just like you might think "Oh yeah, there are fish in the seas, so Nemo in The Living Seas makes perfect sense!". Except that The Living Seas wasn't really about fish and was, again, in a place called Future World.

The Tomorrowland modifications reveal more creeping sucktitude...first the change from futuristic to "retro" (read: "lazy") and then the slow decline into putting just any weird friggin' thing in there because it's a "spaceport". (Bedroom monsters come from space now?)

There's no sense of theming, and it's not accidental. They aren't even trying any more.

That's what I find insulting. They don't take their own product seriously. And Disney doesn't just ignore their fanbase, they have actual contempt for us.

So, y'know, I'd change that.
