Some Disney Art!

Post by dyemooch » Jan Sat 19, 2008 1:16 pm

I really hate to throw your eyes into the fires of bad proportion, over-dramatic effects, and bad composition, but I figured I'd share some art I've done that was Disney related.
For the most part, it's chipmunks XD!
I do have to ask that no images be altered/redistributed without permission- as this has been a problem for me in the past : D!

I'll not toss up all the images as images to save you peoples the load time and what not : )

This set of works were done on an Oekaki board(like a paint forum thing for those unfamiliar with the term):

This idea was birthed from a few sketches I had in a sketchbook I'd take to work with me. I was "best friends" Chipmunks A LOT- the best part is that I have an older twin brother who was on the program with me. He was usually "friends" with Chip, and I with Dale- matched our personalities. (forgive if I talk in Disney-type speak so as not to crush the magic for possible youngins((if they exist here?)) ).
One thing Chip and Dale would do during me and my brother's program is constantly pose like Power Rangers- which led to millions of 'Ranger themed Munk sketches that I called "Rescue Rangers", a callback to the old 80's cartoon, and it already had RANGERS in the name, haha. Anywho. Drew this up on an Oekaki board earlier in '07 with the intention of drawing Dale, Gadget, Zipper, and Monterey... I still intend to draw them all as rangers, but so far, Chip is the only one I did, haha.
Other Oekaki pieces:
Figment using his Imagination to create the famous Mickey silhouette
Dale in his Year of a Million Dreams get up; was towards the end of my program. The last character I was "friends with" on my program was Dale. I really miss that job!

Aah... and now sketches from the work sketchbook I had. Usually I tried to fill up a lot of pages at work- but I always made sure to mark who I was "friends with" that day and where- if possible. I also date a lot of the sketches- so if anyone's happened upon the character on that date, you've probably indirectly ran into me XD!

March of '06; first job working at Chip and Dale's Garden Grill. This was actually spurred on by some backstage discussion about "to what degree" Dale is lazy- since Chip bosses him around a lot. While on set, a little kid told Dale that Chip said he didn't help cook any of the food they were making. Dale nodded and proceeded to wedge his way to sit with the family, and Mickey had to pull him out and remind him he needed to get back to work. Dale was fun to be "friends" with. The family really enjoyed themselves, lol.
Donald Duck as Tetsuo from Katsuhiro Otomo's Japanese comic-made-animated feature, AKIRA.
A friend of mine that worked with me at the Liberty Tree Tavern was a big Japanese animation fan; and because of that, Chip and Dale would often go into the dining areas and confront each other in pantomimed skits from AKIRA, Dragonball Z, and Transformers(the 1986 movie). I don't think anyone understood what was going on, but a Japanese couple sitting right next to us too a lot of photos and made small comments about us when we would do Kamen Rider-styled pose offs.
Taiko Drum Dale
No really lengthy story behind this one. Was working at International Gateway at EPCOT, and decided to draw Dale as a Taiko-drummer.
Samurai Chipmunk Chip
Same day as Taiko-drummer Dale. I figured if Dale was a drummer, Chip was the samurai. Or maybe they'd both be, I don't know. I do remember Dale did a lot of banging on Chip's head that day, much to Chip's dismay.
Unfinished photoshop Figment sketch
I was supposed to do this for my brother, a cast member for Disney still, who I miss like crazy. Him and I were "friends" with Figment a LOT for the latter part of our program. You can have a lot of fun when you have a new Character attendant who isn't expecting twins to work that day. There was one woman who rather freaked out one time when she came off set to find me sitting down. I think she was going to have a heart attack until she found out that there were two of me's. XD
I still want to finish this, but I need to finish all the comic work I have in the way first...

I'm sorry for all the stories! I do tend to ramble on with a lot of the things I've drawn from my time at Disney. A LOT of the pictures have so many stories behind them, and I feel like I'm just obnoxious enough to share them with you all!!! XD!!
Thanks for looking : )

Ooo. Very nice. I particularly like the Taiko and Samurai chipmunks - I really like the detail on the costumes (even just in sketch form ^^ ). The Tetsuo-Donald cracks me up too.

I love the Chip Power Ranger oekaki too. How did you get the texture on the rocks(? broken ground?) on an oekaki drawing? (Or maybe a better question - how did you have the patience to do that? XD). Very nice work.

DisBeamer: Thank you : D! I want to do finished images of the Taiko and Samurai munks. I've also wanted to do the entire AKIRA cast in Disney mascots XD.
The rock textures were a mixture of lots of tablet stroking and luck, lol.

wdwwannabe: Thank you as well : )! I want to get my brother on this board- he's WAY better than I am. As for this being a hobby- it is, but I'm a freelance artist/colorist. I've done very few art jobs, but I'm employed as a comic book colorist with IDW Publishing(on various Transformers comics). It's a great job, but the pay could be a little better.
I want to do art jobs for Disney- but one step at a time, I'm sure, lol!
