We have lived here all our lives, so it is kind of scary, moving the family to the "unknown".
We felt the same way when my grandparents decided to move down to FL, but now thta they're there we don't mind as much
Although I'd rather spend a week at a Disney resort than with them

well all you have to worry about is hurricanes when it comes to natural disasters.
Love Tomorrowland and Adventureland, but hard to decide to which one is best.
Love RCT3

Friendships are a blessing. Don't waste it on people who can't appreciate it.

I did the opposite three years ago--moved from Orlando (where I was working for the Mouse) to Connecticut to work for a finance company. Trust me, that is a hard move. Thankfully, this summer we're moving down to New Orleans and away from the snow and cold. Hello, sunshine!

Where in the NO area, and what are you doing for a job? I was thinking of getting a job down there if it wasn't for the humididity(spelled the way I want it too).

We're moving to Metairie, which is just west of the city. I'll be working for Southern Oaks Plantation, which is a wedding and event venue in NO.
Yeah, the humidity is pretty bad. Think Orlando on the hottest, steamiest day in August you can imagine, right after a rain storm. Might as well take a steam bath on some days.

I have a friend that lives up in the Baton Rouge area and he says the same thing about the heat and humidity. Well that is why AIR CONDITIONING was invented. My uncle live in DC and he still (after30 years) doesn't have Air Conditioning, this is why I only visit him in the Fall - early Spring time frame.
One advantage is you will be closer (cheaper) to WDW. and you can drive again if you want, It will only be 11 hrs If you drive the Speed limit

Yeah, but what fun is that? In my opinion, the drive is the first thrill ride of the vacation.

If you don't mind the heat and no topography, then Florida might be right for you.

I lived outside Chicago for 18 years, and Illinois has no topography either. However, it does have plenty of snow, biting winter winds, and miles and miles of soybean and corn farms. I'll trade that for sunshine, beaches and palm trees any day. So the move to Orlando wasn't that hearbreaking for me...
(However, I do miss Chicago LOTS. It's got to be the greatest big city in the country.)

Compared to Chicago, I too would rather live in Orlando.
