Michael Jackson & Walter Cronkite

Movies, TV, music, and more. Here's the place to talk about anything Disney outside of the parks.

Michael Jackson & Walter Cronkite

Post by casrin » Jul Sun 19, 2009 3:00 pm

Granted, both men had careers that were far larger than their contributions to Disney lore. Still, it seems strange to me that there's never been any mention that they lended their respective talents to early Epcot. Of course, Michael Jackson was Captain EO at Journey into Imagination for several years. And Walter Cronkite had been the narrator of Spaceship Earth in the 80s before it was switched over to Jeremy Irons.

I wouldn't have even known who Cronkite was if not for that narration work on SSE! I was four when he retired from the CBS Evening News, so he never would've been on my radar, ya know? Michael Jackson was more famous to me, at a young age, for having been Captain EO than for having produced records. Haha. :)

Like I say, in the grand scheme of things, these were probably small jobs compared to their overall work, but it seems odd to us how there's been no mention of those jobs when the media covers their lives.

I agree, they were both important people to a Disney attraction, and there has not been any mention. We loved Captain EO when growing up. It was a must see when going to Disneyland.

Remember too that Walter Cronkite did the Animation tour movie with Robin Williams, it was really cool. I was disappointed when they changed it.

Also met Walter Cronkite and a bunch of Astronauts at EPCOT in front of the American Adventure some years ago. I have to say it was around 1997 or 1998 I think? There was some kind of function for them at the pavillion and we just happened to be there that day. There was a parade, a band and then they all went into the American pavillion. I had actually forgotten that until now, it was really special.
