Is Jiko worth the price?
We are going in August and my wife wants to try this restaurant. It's 2 dining table service credits. Is it worth the price?
We are trying to go to some restaurants we haven't been to yet... We've done most of them...
Doing:
1900 Park Fare
Jiko
For a repeat performance, going to:
California Grill
San Angel Inn
Hollywood and Vine (Fantasmic package)
Thanks,
Sam

Yes, Jiko is very good and is one of my favorites. You should definitely give it a try.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

Admittedly, I've never been to Jiko. If you want something with similar flavors but not as expensive, try Boma. I cannot say enough good things about Boma.

I also love Boma so much. Plus there are so many different things you can try

I've never been to either Jiko or Boma But I've heard very good things about both. Just a thought ~ is it worthwhile paying out of pocket if you go to Jiko in order not to use the 2 dining credits?

Yes, I think the 2 credit meals are typically a better value out of pocket. Here's some rough math:Amy wrote:I've never been to either Jiko or Boma But I've heard very good things about both. Two days of the DDP costs about $120 per person. Take out $15 per QS meal and $5 per snack credit (high estimates as this accounts for the value of the QS dessert that most people don't care much about and assumes you're maximizing your snack credit) and you're left with about $80 per person worth of credits that you're spending on Jiko. Entrees at Jiko run $40-$50, desserts are $10, and soft drinks are about $2, meaning your meal at Jiko actually only costs $52-$62.
Of course there are other things that could affect the value depending on your dining habits. For instance, it might not be worthwhile if it means you'll have tons of unused credits at the end of your trip.

Jiko's is our second favorite restaurant in WDW. Sanaa is our top choice. The atmosphere is amazing in the restaurants and the combined resorts. I recommend finding time and money for both during your visit. We like going to Sanaa for a relaxed, extended lunch break. Then on a different day enjoying Jiko for a late evening meal. That way you get to experience the AKL resorts and grounds in day and night conditions.

Something just now occurred to me. Given the positive feedback about Jiko, Boma, and Sanaa, and all the reviews I've seen and heard, I've concluded that whoever is in charge of restaurants at AKL (assuming it's one person) is doing a hell of a job.

I enjoyed Jiko the last time I was there, but I love Sanaa FAR more. Man...such a good place to grab a meal.

I think it also depends on what sort of atmosphere you want. Boma is a buffet, but they have some two person tables in a corner that are nice and have nice views of the pools and trees outside.

It's highest quality food but you have to be an adventurous eater, in terms of spices etc. Have a good look at the menu. If it looks like stuff you would eat, it will be a delicious experience, definitely worth the money.

I love Jiko! It's my favorite WDW dining experience.
My dad was completely worried about eating African food, thought it wouldn't be his thing...and kept trying to get me to cancel our reservation on the first night of our trip in Jan 2015. Ha! He told everyone, and I mean everyone, he talked to on the buses or in an attraction queue or waiting for fireworks or parades and even cast members, that his meal at Jiko was the best meal of his entire life! He still waxes on about it whenever someone asks him about his favorite food.
So yeah, it's worth the money.

That's awesome that he enjoyed it so much ~ I would be the same way, not sure about the African flavors at all. Good thing you stuck to the plan and he ended up liking it so well!JenMuse wrote:I love Jiko! It's my favorite WDW dining experience.
