Beach Club or AKL Lodge?

I find it interesting that no one has discussed theming / interior decor of the two resorts as a factor. Am I the only one on these boards for whom the decor is part of the mood-setter? It's not like I will completely avoid a place because I don't like the calico fabrics, but on the other hand it does have a place in determining how relaxed or comfortable I feel. I've only seen Disney's photos of the interiors of YC and BC and must say I don't like them that much. But, if I was taking the girls on a trip, BC/YC would definitely be a strong contender because of the pool and in spite of the interior colors.

Just wonder if anyone else would factor that in.

If we were simply comparing the interior decor, then YC/BC would lose easily. I do feel that both resorts are in need of some updating and refurb. In comparing Yacht to Beach, I would say that Yacht has a more business feel to it and may appeal more to couples or families with older kids. The Beach club does try to incorporate some Little Mermaid elements in the hallway carpeting and does present itself better for families with younger children. No matter what, I feel both resorts need to be redone in the future.

Pros:

Dedicated buses
Less expensive than most Deluxe resorts
Great on-site restaurants for people with an adventurous palette
Beautiful theming
Club Level guests can go on Sunrise Safari Breakfast Adventure and/or Wanyama Safari (at sunset)
Savanna View rooms have view of animals
Zero-depth entry pool
On-site childcare for kids 4-12 available

Cons:

Not within viewing/walking distance of any theme parks
Standard View could be disappointing
On-site restaurants are African and the spices may not appeal
Low lighting in rooms
Rooms are smaller than the average Deluxe room size
Tips: Book Savanna View if you want to see the animals, take advantage of night vision goggles at the resort to spot animals at night (located near Uzima Springs Spa)

Beach Club:

Pros:

5-10 minute walk to EPCOT
Best pool of the Disney resorts
Can walk or take boat to Hollywood Studios
50 minute specialty cruise for up to 10-12 people available at the dock
Illuminations cruise available at the resort’s marina
Albatross Treasure Cruise for kids ages 4-10 departs from marina
On-site childcare
Disney trivia scavenger hunt available at guest services

Cons:

Buses are shared with other resorts and often lead to long commutes
Not as updated as other Disney hotels
Tip: To get a room that’s the best of all things offered at The Beach Club, request a room with a full balcony on an upper floor close to EPCOT
