Have you been to DisneyWorld on New Years Day?

Post by Monakie78 » Jul Sat 07, 2012 2:55 pm

Has anyone ever been to DisneyWorld on New Years Day? We are planning a surprise trip to DisneyWorld for our 3 kids Jan 1-6, 2013. I've been to DisneyWorld myself approx. 28-30 times. I have NEVER been there on New Years Day. According to my Dad's DVC chart, the attendance goes from the highest of the whole year on Dec 31st....then drops off significantly, with the off season starting Jan 1st. I would think most people would stick around for at least New Years Day at the parks. Are the parks still really crowded on New Years Day?

Thanks!
Monica

They have a big New Year's Eve celebration with a mega fireworks show. You might want to go that day if you can ~ I guess the display is spectacular!
I haven't been personally during the holiday, but I know people who have and they said it was pretty darn crowded New Year's Eve and New Year's Day as well as the few days leading up to and afterward. I think if you are willing to deal with a few extra people the first few days, the attendance should probably drop off in the few days after that. The weather should be nice too :D

Hmmm, I wonder if they are as dead as they can be at DLR? Here it's dead the day after because it's mostly locals but at WDW most of the people had to stay at a hotel I would imagine meaning they would be on the property on 1/1, but it's also the only day of the holiday...

I would guess WDW is pretty busy on 1/1 because as you said, most people are there from staying overnight anyhow. I wonder if that is a good day to get going really early though. Maybe the parks aren't quite as busy at rope drop with people having stayed up a little later than usual for New Year's Eve?

That wouldn't surprise me, since it is known as amature night for drunk insomniacs. :D

My dad booked us a room with his DVC membership a few weeks ago...we're staying at the Animal Kingdom! Yipppieeee! :nemo:

He said the point value to get a room is double or more approximately from Christmas through New Years Eve compared to what it is on New Years Day and after....that goes for all DVC resorts. He's assured me that the DVC books are accurate that attendance dips down 1/1 & after. DVC's point value system is based on the attendance. I've been there mid-January with smaller crowds. We mostly go in October now, since we have to go around the kids school schedule. I'm still a little nervous it will be more crowded than what we're used to on New Years Day and the few days after since the holiday falls on a Monday. This winter the kids have a few extra days in our school system to have off, so it works out perfect for us to go! I just hope it doesn't work out perfect for bazillons of other people too.

We won't be at the parks until New Years Day. Amy & Wizzard419....you have a good point. The parks may be quiet the next morning as a lot of people will be sleeping in. We're definitely not staying up late New Year's Eve....we're most likely staying at a hotel nearby not on Disney property. So far we are on a waiting list for New Years Eve at Animal Kingdom, but we doubt we'll be getting a room then. I told my dad we can sleep in the minivan in the Animal Kingdom parking structure :mickey3:

Hmmm, looking at this year, NYD will be on a tuesday. My guess is that more people will not be taking the week off so 1/1 will be a day where most of the people are leaving the property.

January itself tends to be dead, but I can't speak for NYD, as the earliest I have been in January is the 7th.

Maybe, if I'm not working. Depending on crowd levels, CMs sometimes are blocked from entering the parks.

I have been to Disney world on New Years, and may I say, I will NEVER do it again....... we were in the parks early and it was very crowded! At 10am that year as we were walking out of MK the lady at the gates told us if we left the park we would not be let back in becasue the parks reached max. occupancy. Later we found out that it was not only Mk but EPCOT and HS as well. We still decided to brave it and we left the parks went to the room for awhile and then went back to the parks later in the evening. I have also been to Disney for my honeymoon the third week in January and what a difference!!! Completely dead! It was the best time we have ever had, walked on all of the ride, no wait! It was still a fun trip for New Years but now that i can say ive done it, I know i wouldnt do it again.

We tried to go to DL for New Year's Eve back in 1998. Turned away due to max crowd at noon. Didn't want to stay around to see if it would subside, and went to Long Beach instead. Don't they do a special televised parade on New Year's Day sometimes? I would think that could increase the crowds.

They tape the parades well in advance though so it wouldn't affect the crowds on the actual holiday.

Yes, for instance, whoever had the bright idea of scheduling our Christmas parade taping on 6 December should REALLY have thought better about that. Publicity stunt if I ever saw one.
