Advice & Recommendations!

Post by casrin » Sep Thu 29, 2011 8:57 pm

What recommendations would you make for a pair of adults who have not been to WDW since 2000? What would be new must-sees? Must experience?

It'll feel like a new adventure with it having been so long! :mickey: Thanks in advance. :)

Hmm so there are a bunch of new attractions for you to experience. In AK you have EE which is amazing. DHS has really changed a bit since you were last there. You have Lights, Motor, Action, Pixar Place, Star Tours 2, and some other changes. EPCOT has changed with the conversion of Horizons to Mission Space, The Land is redone with Soarin', and The Seas got made over to a Finding Nemo theme. Finlly MK has seen changes in Tomorrowland, some new interactive queues, and upgrades to some great classics.

It all really comes down to how much time you'll have, where you're staying, and when you are planning on going.

Two adults... are you going to be there during Food and Wine at Epcot? I'd recommend that for sure. Basically anything else I'd say is a copy of Len's post until I can think of more. :)

Thanks!

It'd be in March of next year (hopefully!) during the "plant festival" (as I call it). ;)

So EE is definitely worthwhile? I'm a coaster fanatic! Is the Yeti doing his thing yet? I haven't followed its progress.

Is Soarin' physically wild at all? My mom was asking; she's never been a fan of motion simulators so we're wondering how it compares, say, with how Body Wars was or the old Star Tours as far as being "rough." Easier/gentler than those?

Thanks!

The Yeti is still motionless on EE :( Definitely a fun ride though!
Soarin' is very gentle, think of a glider/rocker motion. Not sure how someone that has motion sickness would fare on it though. My Mom loves it. It isn't at all the same sort of ride simulator that Body Wars or Star Tours is. If she is ok on a swing, she should be ok. She could always close her eyes if the movie was bothering her.
You are going after the same length of time my Mom, F1gment, and I were away. It is amazing how much has changed, and how much is still the same.

Poor Yeti. :( Thanks for the info, though!

Thanks for the details on Soarin' too. I know the soundtrack doesn't sound too "scary." I think it'd be worth riding just to see Patrick Warburton as a flight attendant. LOL

Now, I just have to hope that Captain EO is still there by the time we go!!!

We haven't been since 2003, and pretty much all of those changes have happened since. Additional thanks from me for the the info! Great question casrin!
(even though we have gone on ST2 and Soarin... ;) Misson: Space was about a month or two away from opening when we were there last. )

Soarin' is really mellow and relaxed, I wouldn't worry about it. When I was there in the summer, I talked to a lovely family from Canada as I was waiting and the wife said she got terrible motion sickness on all the rides and was concerned about Soarin' but came off just fine, so I think it'd be okay. It doesn't even mess with my vertigo and a lot of things do.

If you're going to be there for Flower and Garden, well, I can recommend a host of things to do during that, I'm kind of an expert regarding that festival.

Thanks, soarin08 - that's good to know. :)

Flower & Garden... it's funny that that'll end up being when our trip takes place. When I was a kid and we'd go on trips way back when (lol), it always seemed that was when we were there! We're more of a "ooh, pretty flower" than anything particular about them though.

It's definitely exciting to be able to look forward to all of the new things since you were there last. It gives you a long, fresh "must do" list, plus you forget so many little details about the other attractions making them "new" all over again. It's easy to miss out on those feelings the more often you go.

Others have already covered in good detail what the new attractions are. My suggestion is to schedule in some time for a few "new to you" activities - whether it's an attraction, restaurant, show, etc.

Have you thought about where you will stay?

I will have to agree, Soarin is great and mellow, Expedition Everest is awsome. Spaceship Earth in Epcot has changed some. Pirates added jack sparrow since 2000. Check out the Finding Nemo show and ride.

I'm assuming you mean Nemo? The ride is at Epcot, the show is at Animal Kingdom.
