Hi,
Does any one know if Disney is going to do something for WDW's 40th (October 1st, 2011)?

Personally, I would love it if they did (good excuse for me to corral the family and friends into going)...

They didn't seem to do very much in the way of celebrating Disneyland's 55th so I wonder if they will do much for WDW's 40th?

Huh?? They actually did quite a bit compared to EPCOT's 25th. They gave out celebratory cupcakes, speeches, Flash Mob, and announced new retro Disneyland 55 Merchandise.

And we just recently had that great announcement about memories being displayed on the castle. That probably counts as part of their 40th celebration.

Huh?? They actually did quite a bit compared to EPCOT's 25th. They gave out celebratory cupcakes, speeches, Flash Mob, and announced new retro Disneyland 55 Merchandise.

But there didn't seem to be any grand celebration like you would have expected. It just seemed like there would have been a huge deal made out of the 55th anniversary of the original park that opened in 1955!

I do admit that I was super lucky to be at WDW for the 25th (I know a lot of people hated the castle but I loved it) and on main street to listen to Eisner and see the Blue Angels (I think it was this team) fly over head, etc.
I would hope they would do something special for the 40th...I think it's a great milestone.

As far as I can tell, there hasn't been much buzz about it from the usual sources, but I'm sure they'll be dropping tidbits any day now... we'll keep our eyes and ears peeled.

I'm sure there will be merchandise.

Really? I don't know. The EPCOT 25th was last-minute as they had really no plans to celebrate. Disneyland's never-ending 50th (they celebrated for about 1.5 years) was the higher priority and EPCOT was an after-thought. I don't remember there being anything done for the 30th or the 35th.

The 40th isn't really a "big" anniversary. Oh, I'm sure they'll mention it in their ad campaign and use it as an excuse to sell some merchandise (Amy: probably the "blah-blah-blah something-you-can-find-anywhwere with '40th' stamped on it") but I'm not going to feel horribly put out when they don't do anything special. No, the big one will be the 50th in 2021 (and I'll be 43, holy crap!).

They'll probably have Duffy in a "happy 40th" shirt.....

Hey, I didn't say I liked the idea...! I'm just anticipating what they might do because... (in my best Julia Childs voice...) I'm on to their wicked ways...

The job offer might be nice, though.

Don't worry about the 43 too much, in 2021 some of us will be older than that
