Ever use a Pedometer at WDW?
Have you ever used a pedometer to track your steps/miles at WDW? If so, what was your daily total for the park(s)?

I don't even want to know how much walking we do when at WDW. I could imagine in a two week stay having walked enough to make it back to Chattanooga.

We wore pedometers once to DL, but stopped doing it because our cheap pedometers measured steps when we were on the rides. By the middle of the afternoon, it was up to some ridiculous number. If we ever go a day when we aren't riding many rides, it would be interesting to see how many steps in a day.

You could note down the number just before you get on the ride then reset it once you're off the ride, then note it down again befor yeou get on the next ride etc, then add up the total at the end of the day... But that's a bit of a long way aroundMmeLeota wrote:We wore pedometers once to DL, but stopped doing it because our cheap pedometers measured steps when we were on the rides. If you're suitably skilled, you could probably modify your pedometer to have a switch so it doesn't count when you don't want it to... or something.
I'm over thinking things, aren't I. Perhaps this is a sign that it's bedtime.

Mousekedude: I didn't say you had to go and buy one. I was trying to find out if there's one of the more health-conscious amongst us who has taken a ped with him/her to the park and tracked their steps/mileage. I'm going in December as well, but with two people less than half my age. I'm basically a desk jockey at work so I need to get in shape for my next WDW trip if I'm to survive it. If someone had been and tracked it with a ped it would be useful for me to use as a "target/goal" to achieve by then in walking.

It sounds like a very curious thing to do. I'm very interested in your results. Which park are you going to? I would think you would do a lot more walking in WDW over DLR.

At this time, it's WDW and that's as much as I can say. My cousins, with whom I will be visiting WDW, are not into pre-planning so I cannot say which parks it will be for the two days. Hopefully, maybe around Thanksgiving, it will be easier to get hold of them and come up with "battle plan" for our trip.

I always wear a pedometer. On a normal day going to work I average 13,000 steps minimum (if I sit on my butt at work) and 23,000 max, average speed 4.9 mph and 3.9 ft. per step. Max speed is during my commute, I hit 5.6 mph.
In the parks I get 18,000 minimum, 26,000 max, average speed 5.1 mph, at 3.9 ft. per step.
I don't have a fancy $100 pedometer or anything, I got one for free from a box of Frosted Flakes. If you are wonder, YES, I have tested it by counting steps then checking if it was accurate, it is. Now my brothers iphone was off by 4 steps in one test and 12 in another, and that cost WAY more than my Tony the Tiger one.
Also when I am traveling in the parks I am also carrying around a camera bag that has 25+ lbs. of gear in it. In a normal work day I carry around 18lbs. of gear in my bag when traveling to and from work (6.4 miles total to/from work)
The thing you will have to remember is that EVERYONE'S gate is different. So my 18,000 steps at 6' 1" tall could be like 26,000 steps for a 5'5" person. To figure out what your gate is measure out 50ft and walk that distance (starting out a few feet in advance so you can get your full gate). Count how many steps it took you to cover that distance then take that number and divide 50 by it. Example: 50 / 13=3.9
And if you want to calculate your findings just use this calculator:

I was talking to my wife about this, and she said she was already thinking about getting a pedometer for our trip in December. We went and looked at some, and it just amazes me that there don't seem to be any that have a "pause" feature, or some other way that you can stop it to go on rides without losing what you have so far. We don't want to have to write it down, stop, start again, write it down again, ....ad nauseum...
....so we gave up on the idea. Does anyone know if or where we could get one that does what we want?

Wow, Dr. Ravenscroft, for a free ped from a cereal box, it does a lot more than the free ped I got from work! All mine does is steps and miles - nothing else. I've thought about buying another one, but until I can find an affordable one ($79 is way too much), I will continue to use this one.
I had one of my direct reports come from EPCOT from this past Saturday and he did over 20,000 in that one day, which falls into your 18,000-26,000 range. Currently, I'm doing about 7,000 steps per walk at night. I've been increasing it slowly about every other night.
Mousekedude: I say get the peds and use them. I'm still searching around for an affordable ped somewhere.
If any one knows where to buy an affordable but accurate pedometer out there, please post the information. Thanks.
