Different markets, different sales approach

Post by rodders » May Tue 05, 2009 10:55 am

I have looked at the "free" dining offers and compared the offer in the UK to the one in the US and see that they are very different indeed.

I understand that in the US the offer runs until Sep / October and includes all of the hotel classes. In the UK it runs until December 17th and value resorts get nothing, moderate get the QS plan and deluxe resorts get the full plan. It's fair enough IMO as the UK and the US are different markets and Disney can sell to them as they see fit.

What I was disappointed with when I looked was that in the UK site POFQ was fully booked for the first two weeks in December but the US site is still showing availability. I called Disney to clarify this and, as I suspected, the 2 sites get their own inventory of rooms and when they are gone, that's it. So, woe is me, if we do go for those two weeks then we may be "forced" to upgrade to Old Key West, or Saratoga Springs
1980, 2000, 2005 and 2008 all had plenty of magic. Hoping for a bit more in 2010.

"woe is me"...hard choice... Old Key West or Saratoga (maybe the new Tree House Villas?)

I didn't know that different areas got different plans or packages. I guess out of the country would make a difference. hummm..learned something today!

Have a fun time choosing what you are going to do! Let us know what you decide!

Well, I can book through the US site but the trouble is, the free dining ends in October plus the exchange rate being so low makes it a lot cheaper to buy in the UK plus we need 15 park days so it's a $500 AP compared to a £219 (approx $330) 2 week ticket on the UK site. And the "Woe is me" thing was my attempt at being sarcastic, i'd be thrilled to get even a few days in a value resort :D The time to buy was when we got $2.10 to the £1.00 :D

I am sorry if I miss took what you were saying. Trying to save a few dollars (pounds) in any way is a good thing! Once again, have a fun time deciding what you'll be planning!

According to the current exchange rate an AP (the cheapest if you can call it that) would cost about £312. Granted that is £100 more but think of all the other discounts you get....Food, Parking, Merch. It might work out for you, now granted you still have to buy tickets for the rest of the group but one AP gets you all the discounts.
