Take a tripod. Seriously, Disneyland looks better at night with the decorations. If you want to get a better picture of them take a tripod. It doesn't have to be a huge tripod, you can use a Gorilla pod or a bean bag with a camera mount. Anything that will keep that camera steady for a few seconds.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? anything special that does not happen in DL that we should be aware of? I know that WDW has a Very Mickey Christmas party. does Disneyland have anything like this that I should be aware of?

Cool! We went every Christmas and New Years Eve when we lived there. Christmas day is always nice and the crowds are manageable. Beware New Years Eve! If you are still there then go early so if they have to close Park and you leave midday for a break, you can still get back in. Also, avoid the castle area for the fireworks and watch from Main Street for the sake of the little ones-the crowds really get tight and scary! :mickey:

There is nothing like Disneyland at Christmas. I've been twice and it is truly beautiful. Make sure to spend a little time in the Grand Californian lobby.

Usually the Candelight Processional happens the first weekend in December. I have not had the opportunity to see it yet, but I have seen pictures. If the tradition continues, looks like you will be there for it. :)

The park is absolutely beautiful during Christmastime. My husband and I try to go every year to see the decorations (though the last 3 or 4 years we haven't been able to).

California Adventure has a lot of construction going on this year, so I am not sure what they will do decoration-wise.
