So Mrs. Future Guy and I have run the numbers, and barring any emergencies or catastrophes our planned January 2010 trip to WDW is a go!

We're going to go during the first week of January when rates are the lowest. The plan is for 4 days and 3 nights, and right now it looks like we'll be able to stay at the Polynesian. We've only ever stayed at the All Star resorts before this, so it'll be nice to have a room that's more than just a glorified walk-in closet! Also, I'm jazzed to be staying at a place that has a Monorail station; the Monorail is one of my favorite things about WDW.

I've got some questions, though: How are the beds at the Poly? Mrs. Future Guy is kind of like the princess from "The Princess and the Pea" where beds are concerned, and if we get one of those horrible hotel beds that sags so bad in the middle that you feel like you're sleeping on the side of a hill, it'll ruin the entire trip for her. Also, how practical is it to watch the MK fireworks show from the beach? Alternately, how hard is it to get reservations at California Grill to watch the fireworks from there? Any special hoops you have to jump through to get good seats for that? Also, I'm interested in the Undiscovered Future World tour at EPCOT. Has anyone else taken it, and if so, how did you like it?

Well, I never stayed at the Poly, so I can't tell you how the beds are. However, I have never experienced a bad bed yet in all of my stays at WDW. I have heard a lot about the fireworks from the beach and I would probably recommend it.

Finally, California Grill is usually pretty tough to get into, especially for a fireworks timed reservation. In order to get in, you will have to book as far in advance as Disney allows which is now 90 days in advance. I advise calling first thing in the morning 90 days before to guarantee this.

OH the POLY!!!!!! My most fav. resort in all of WDW!!! This is an exciting thread! I've stayed at the Poly 5 x's, you will not be disappointed! Tell Mrs. Future Guy that the beds are fantastic! There's a huge difference between the beds, bedding, linens at the deluxe resorts compared to the moderates (can't compare anything to the values, never stayed there). The towels are also more plush! The Poly has the largest rooms of any WDW resort. It will be hard for you to leave!

It is absolutely fantastic to watch the fireworks from the beach at the Poly! They will pipe in the music for you to hear. Get there about 30-45 mins. early to get a swing, or there are plenty of beach chairs for you to grab! The electrical light parade is a must see as well, that usually starts at 9pm or before the fireworks.

We've never dined at California Grill, but I know it is hard to get reservations. Len90 is correct, make ADR's a.s.a.p. I would highly recommend Narcoossee's at the Grand Floridian! You can view the fireworks from this restaurant as well and it's a short walk from the Poly! Great food too! Just a suggestion!!! We've eaten there twice!

It's great to be able to catch the monorail from the Poly! If you can locate a map of the Poly, you might want to request a specific longhouse. We prefer Tokelau!

Just because I live in Florida doesn't mean I get in for free, you know! As much as I hate it, I am often forced to spend money on trivial non-Disney stuff like food and rent. And anyway, for two-thirds of the year, it's just too hot to spend any amount of time outside. That trip we took in September 2007 was fun, but also kind of miserable because of the heat.

Oh, yea spend your money on luxuries like a roof over head, electric light, food, and your seemingly lavish life style. Don't you know Disney needs you money. Without you how is Iger going to get to be paid his 51 million dollars. Of all the self centered things.

Actually I lived in Ft Myers from the late 70's through the early 90's and the only time I went to WDW was when a visiting relative drag me down as their tour guide ( worked out to be a few times a year.). people think because you live in Florida you're always on vacation. I feel ya!

Oh, how I wish. Although, I find my relatives think I am nuts to live in Florida during the summer (hurricanes - even though I have lived here 24 years and not been through one yet) but envious that I live here in the winter.

Congrats Future_Guy on your trip, I wonder what they will be celebrating when you go down in 2010...

I lived in Florida 3 years before I took advantage of the fact I live so close...if you count a 6 hour drive close...yes the State of Florida is HUGE at least for me!!!

However I'm so excited for you and your wife!! I hope you guys have an amazing Disney vacation!!

Just booked our reservations! We're going to be at the Contemporary instead of the Poly because it was cheaper per night, and we're really trying to get our money's worth. Never stayed in a deluxe resort before, only the All Stars, so this'll be a real treat.

We've budgeted well enough that we should have a good amount of spending money, which is good because I want my wife to be able to do whatever she wants. It's been a rough year for her (and it's not over yet) and she really needs this.

Congrats on booking it. Hopefully the Disney magic can help turn everything around for you and your wife.
