What time of year...
So I have never been to DL and me and my girlfriend want to go (she has been to DL though). We can't do it this year because her family is taking her to Italy and that is eating up her vacation time for the near future. I keep asking her when she would want to go next year, but we can't make up our minds on wheather we want to see the winter overlays or the regular attractions.
Any advice or suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I am always a fan of the summer time. You are pretty much guaranteed that all the attractions will be operating. However, it comes with the crowds.... which I happen to be a fan of. In the end, it really comes down to what you and your girlfriend want.

I, too, am gonna say late winter/early spring. It's much, much nicer not to have to deal with the mad crowds or the intense heat. California heat is dry and intense, worsened by lines and crowds and people with bad attitudes.
Watch the calendars to make sure you're not coming during spring breaks (again, crowded), but for the most part, it's a really empty park, lots of walk-ons. Very cool.

Yeah, definitely don't go during spring break (made that mistake once, and never again) but other than that, it's DEAD in the winter/early spring. Also, September is usually pretty quiet, and October and November have some good dead days.

Being that I live in Tampa, let me tell you that the best time to go to Disney is NOT the summertime. Well, unless you enjoy 120 degree heat indexes, large crowds, and a guarantee 4:00pm rain shower. If that is your ideal conditions, then by all means...Disney in mid-July is where you want to be. Me personally feel that anywhere between November - April is by far the best time to go. Just avoid holidays and obviously spring break to avoid the crowds.

Funny . . . that is usually our only time of year that we CAN go so we have to take the opportunity regardless of the weather. If you don't mind sweating all day long, going through two outfits every day (thanks to the aforementioned sweating), the normal afternoon, early evening thunder bumper (great time to visit some of the rides at MK) and being with thousands of other people at a time, then this is the best time to go. You do have to plan your eating around the crowds since that can take up to twice as long as it normally would.Peerless83 wrote:Being that I live in Tampa, let me tell you that the best time to go to Disney is NOT the summertime. Edit: And I just saw that this was related to DL not WDW. . . sorry.

Time of year is basically up to the individual. What type of weather are you looking for? What Rides do you really want to be there and open during your visit? Do you like certain Holidays more that others, Christmas vs. Halloween for example?
The weather is nice and cool in the winter time with some days getting pretty cold, also it can rain a lot, it just depends on your luck. Spring and early fall are warm and perfect, this is just my opinion but I do like the weather. Summer is hot but really dry so you don't really notice the heat unless you are in direct sunlight. I am NOT a fan of heat but I can handle the summers in DL.
As for the rides if you REALLY love the Haunted Mansion you might not want to go towards the end of Sept-start of Oct. or Jan 2 - early Feb. HM will be under constructin during those times for the Holiday overlay. Also if you WANT to see the holiday overlay then you should go between Oct and Jan 1st. In the winter months many of the rides go down for various amounts of time everything from 2 days for painting to months for rehabs. So you would have to look at the construction schedule over at Miceage.com.
And as for the Holidays, if you love Fall and Halloween then you obviously want to go during the month of Oct. If you enjoy Christmas time more then you will want to go during December, but this will be the most crowded it will get at DL so plan accordingly.
Personally I would say just go when you have time to play. If you have more vacation time in the summer go then, if you have more time in Winter then go then. I wouldn't worry too much about when to go, each time of year has its good and bad points. You just have to find them and decide whether you can handle them or not.

My husband and I went to DL at the very end of April and it was nice. The crowds were not too bad (except for Nemo, which was new at the time, and Peter Pan, which is always crowded everywhere.)
The weather was very hot, but, as they say, it was a "dry heat", so it wasn't too sweaty.
My only complaint is that the evening shows (FW, parades etc) were only available on the weekends, so it was hard to get them all in.
